After experiencing some difficulties with my husbands credit recenty I thought I should check out mine too. I have not had a job in over a year and no new credit acct's so was very curious as to what my cr had to show me. On my transunion cr, not the other 2, I have 2 open accounts. The first one is listed like this:
Acct name FHUTREDADV
acct # XXXXXXXXXXX
acct type revolving
acct status open
date open 4/1/2000
high balance 563.00
limit 300.00
status 120 days past due
24month payment history has last activity as 120 days past due in april 01

the next one is like this:
acct name FINGERHUT CREDIT ADVANTAGE
acct # XXXXXXXXXXXXXX (different than the first)
acct type collection
acct status open
date open 6/7/2005
balance 987.00
payment status collection acct
comments placed for collection
nothing listed under the 24 month paymenthistory

I do remember once upon a time having a finger hut card but never 2 accounts. I got the 3 credit reports online and it seems there is lots of info missing from them. can anyone explain what these two entries mean? could they be the same account listed differently? how do i go about getting it resolved? none of the acct's on my report have contact info for the creditors for me to resolve the issues. would i be better getting hard copies from the 3 agencies? i am very new to thiswhole credit thing so any help would be appreciated. thanks

Yes, two kid is correct, you will need to send validation request so you can see proof of what they're saying you owe here. In the meantime, you can also dispute with the credit bureaus and let them investigate it and come back and report their findings to you. The validation request could take awhile so you could do the dispute with the bureaus while you wait. Just to see what they come back and say. If its not yours, they will remove it.

Let me explain what I feel here-

Carinwallace had a Fingerhut card that went default in past. Now creditor has placed this account to collection. Fingerhut seems to have an affiliated collection agency. So two names appearing in your card are so similar.

No problem so far. But once creditor places the account to collection, the account should reported as zero balance. Carinwallace's report does not show that.

Apart from contacting OC and CA, can she dispute with credit bureaus as well? What do you think?

Carinwallace, please search their profile with BBB for more info.

Just because a creditor places an account in collections, does not mean that the account should be reported as a zero balance. I don't know where this Stanley gets his information, but he needs to research before giving out bad information. It would be against the law to report a debt as a zero balance until the account is resolved, either by paying in full, or by settling the account.

has anyone else noticed that this is not two separate companies, but in fact the same company on both entries?

here's the first:

Acct name FHUTREDADV

Here's the second:

acct name FINGERHUT CREDIT ADVANTAGE

The first is as follows:

FHUT is for fingerhut.....RED is for cREDit....ADV is for ADVantage....

also, let's take a look at that first account again...

status 120 days past due
24month payment history has last activity as 120 days past due in april 01 [/quote]

This would mean that the absolute latest that this account could have gone delinquent is January 2001--as such, it should have already fallen off this person's report due to the time limit for reporting allowed by the FCRA. I noticed that this is an old thread after i started posting, hopefully the OP got this resolved already.
