American Debit collectors debited $150.00 out of my checking account today. They are collecting for universal cash advance. I have paid American Debit in the past but universal was also debiting money out of my account at the same time so when I called Universal about this they said my loan was paid in full I asked her to fax me over a letter which she did, stating my loan was paid in full this was on 2/15/05. American debit continued to call me I told them that the loan was paid in full and I faxed them over a copy of my letter from universal and that was what I believed to be the end of it unitl today I look at my checking account and American withdraw $150.00 out of my accout. So I called american debit today and I spoke to CRAIG THOMAS the supervisor at American Debit and he had enough nerve to tell me that they couldn't verify that the letter from Universal was legit. I'm sooo angry. I even told him it was from Sandra at Universal Cash Advance and it was on their letterhead. I kept all my copies and imformation. I told him I was contacting the Attorney Generals office and the BBB he said that's fine they did nothing illegal that my electronic signature with Universal gave them the authority to debit my account. I reply that was a contract between Universal and me, and I have a letter from them stating it was paid. I'm in Michigan is it even legal for them to be conducting business in my state. I saw something on an earlier post about these pdl companies that can't even legally do business if they aren't in that state. thanks christie

Christie,
It seems they do not keep track of documents received from consumers. You should ask your bank to block them hitting your account in future. Inform your lender about what has happened with you and tell them the collection agency has raised question about their legitimacy.
Obviously contact Attorney General of your state, BBB and FTC to file complaint against them. You can also consult a lawyer to find out if the CA is liable to compensate you up to the loss caused be them. Keep us posted.
