Hello, I was contacted by this firm regarding an outstanding Orchard Mastercard balance. They say they are an attorney's office and that they are not a collection agency, therefore they do not need to set up payment arrangements, they can demand payment in full or file a suit. I have done some checking, and Thomas Bamford is indeed an attorney practicing in Texas, but the way his office conducts business is unlike any law office I have seen. The legal assistant I spoke with was extremely rude, when I questioned something he was saying, he said that my priority needs to be paying this bill, everything else is secondary. Although this made me furious, I kept my mouth shut because I need a payment arrangement and cannot deal with a lawsuit. I guess I don't really have a question, I just need to vent a little. Has anyone out there ever dealt with this "law" firm? If so, please let me know how your experience was. Thanks so much, Melissa

They all say that their bill needs to be paid first. Forget about rent, car insurance, utilities, ect.... Ok, I'll run and take care of that credit card first... Consolidate and let T & C handle those wolves. If they have not yet filed suit and you have attempted to make payment arrangements, they may be complelled to accept payment arrangements if they attempt to sue you. Document all activities with them and who you spoke to. If at all possible correspond with them in writing. Do not mail them checks, they can access your account that way. Do send them money orders only.

Thanks, jmid....you know, I am a smart person, and in my head I know what I want to say to these shmoes when they call, but when I am actually talking with them I get so flustered and emotional....it is so hard. I am so frustrated with dealing with creditors...we have a good income, and it's because of my bad financial decisions that we are in this predicament. So, I guess I feel like I deserve the hard time the creditors give me. Maybe I should call T&C...how can they help? Blessings, Melissa

If you show that you have attempted to pay this debt and they still file suit, you must go to court, and show documents that you hve mailed, who you spoke to, and they still have to treat you with some respect. They still cannot threaten you with arrest. Call T & C, see if they can help.

That's crap. They can say they are calling from an attorney's office and still be telling the truth, but only be calling frmo a collection agency since the collection agency is owned by the attorney. You can still negotiate with them if you're dealing with circumstances. Don't let them beat on you, they're not above the law and they can't not negotiate something feasible with you.

And just remember that the entire collection talk off is just scripted hot air and you have nothing to fear from it. When you're in a financial bind, your priorities change, and you can't take food out of your families' stomachs or take a roof off your head for the sake of some debt and a bunch of minimum wage hot air losers. Pay what you can TO THE ORIGINAL CREDITOR and no harm will befall you. Even if it's just $50 per month, it shows intent and no legal action can be taken against you.

In the meantime, get to work on your cease comm.

Take a look at the Free Cease Communication Letter at the bottom of the Homepage.
Also be aware of the following advise by credit expert

There is a web site of a certain person called "America's Consumer Credit Expert." If you use those words in a google search it will come up with it. There is a free letter there you can download.
It mentions Thomas Bamford specifically as one of the worst debt collectors, but it is mispelled as Barnford. It's the same agency though. There is good advice there but I don't want to duplicate it here.
Geez...

I am deeply sorry you had a bad expierence with Tom.I cannot verify for sure if this is the right Tom Bamford, but I will say this. Tom is My Uncle who passed away and was buried Friday, July 10th. It may not have been his law firm but the collection agency that hired him. Im not sure what he was doing during that time frame, but for him to be rude is not his forte. As his nephew I can only say to you, Im sorry this occured.
