Does anyone know anything about an organization called "Union Workers Credit Services"? I got an unsolicited letter from them stating that my husband qualifies automatically for a "guaranteed" Platinum card from them. I think it's fishy because there is no bank affiliation, the letter states "guaranteed $10,000 credit limit and no bank affiliation". There is a one time $37 fee and it just smells fishy. Any info. would help. And BTW...our credit is nowhere near being platinum worthy!

emtpixie2, beware of such offers! If possible, mark such mails as SPAM in your mailbox.

No loan company will ask for any money upfront. Besides, if such contracts exist, they should be solicited in writing with a legal basis. These companies are just making their way to run away with your money. Be careful.

That's one of those catalog/shopping cards. I get one for $7500 and I tell them I'm not interested when they call then they say will you signed up for one so? I signed up for one thinking it was a regular credit card then comes the phone call...duh how was I to know it was a shopping catalog card?

Yes, I know exactly what you received, because I received the same thing and applied for it. They made me believe it was for a master card or visa. It winds up that you have to purchase the items from a catalog which are three times higher than what you could buy it for. I'm ripping mad, and I'm going to ask for my 37.00 back.

It`s a scam. Here`s the information i found in Scam alert center

Union Workers Credit Services: Local residents have recently been approached by a company called Union Workers Credit Services with a pre-approved credit offer. This letter states that a credit limit has been set and requests a check or money order for $37.00 to accept the offer. This company has received numerous complaints of fraud. Please be cautious about any pre-approved credit offer and check out all terms, conditions, and fees associated with the offer.

I have one in my hand right now. I too was wondering if it was a scam. I checked around in Dallas, TX and they have no legit company there by that name. I can't find it. So it must be a scam. Right to my shredder it goes. Goodbye platinum offer.

I thank all for the information, I was also tempted to send in money for the same offer. I was a little concerned with the lack of information that followed the offer such as disclosures and a return envelope. The phone number is (214) 424-6888. Hopefully we can put a stop to this scam.

I just received that crap in the mail today. I do not remember ever filling out an application or requesting the supposed Platinum Card in my sleep! They even have the nerve to formulate the bottom portion as if it was an invoice. I wish something can be done with companies like that enjoy taking advantage of people. First the enforcement for everyone to purchase cable and satellite television - now this. Look out America because after October 1st there will be a surmountable amount of complaints against fraudulent companies like this one and Dell!

I know what ur talking about. I just got one of those letters today!! Yeah I have to say, it would be nice to be able to move through life with a sudden approval for a card that gives us an unGodly amount for a limit. It get people's hopes up that have fallen in the past and are trying to pick up the pieces again. It will excite you when you start to think about how you could make purchases and make low payments again and have life move so smoothly.

This letter first excited me, then made me think about how nice it would be. Then it made me re-read it over and over just knowing there's no way! And then it pissed me off cause I know that there is someone sitting somewhere behind this letter, who can afford to make the nice letters look as professional as they do, with prepaid envelopes and all.
As we speak who ever is doing this has made a fortune to be able to print all these up and send them out. He has been funded by people like us who sink their hope into something like this and end up with nothing but a 37.00 loss. In this day and age it can be alot for someone who dreams of the ability to instantly repair their credit. And I do mean a GOD speed repair. NO my credit is not worthy in the lenders eyes of any sort. with a score of 490 theres no way anyone would allow me 10,000 to do anything. I would be blessed at this point to have a popcorn seed finananced. much less the nicer things in life at this moment.
However, If I were you I wouldnt buy into it. I have no plans to give any money to the man or people behind this letter. I can only hope that they will be caught and that not to many people will lose their money to who ever is doing this.
I just got this letter about 30 minutes ago. It kinda made me sad.

I got one today and even with my bifocals it was hard to read the fine print which says this is not a multi purpose credit card and can only be used when shopping in our catalogue. I am a 30 year AF vet and even through my retired officers association, the best, and very good, interest rate I have ever gotton was 9.5%. I knew right away that the 5% was total, you know what. Stay far far far away from these guys.

PEOPLE, JUST READ THE FINE PRINT! The letter says," are not affiliated with," Visa or
Mastercard or UWCS. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Always read
the fine print or check them out on the web before doing anything. AND no valid card
company asks for money up front. ITS A SCAM!

As the old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is too good to be true. It is incumbent upon us to look before we leap.

I've seen several comments about how someone read this offer and thought they were saved, or this would help them "get ahead". Regardless of what our government officials try to sell us, you CANNOT borrow your way out of debt. You cannot borrow your way to prosperity.

Fend for yourself, don't agree to anything without studying it first, no matter what the circumstance. Look before you leap.

Now, I have no trouble bringing the full weight and force of the judicial system against scum like these. However, they aren't like "all american idiots". These are a few, a very few, of the rotten apples in our society.
