Ok, so I just took a little walk down the strip here to Walmart and got the most JINORMOUS bag of Starburst candy...And some purple Peeps.

Then, I bought a large Cherry ICEE from the snack bar...

And then on my way out, some church was having a bake sale, and I got 2 caramel chocolate eggs, and some of these little cup things with some kinda crunchy chocolate goodness.

So needless to say, I'm a bit wired right now. Now I remember why Easter and Halloween were so AWESOME when I was little...Halloween you get to go to all the houses in your neighborhood and everyone gave you CANDY! and on Easter, you got a basket full of CANDY! Normally, when your mom would take you to the store, and you were like, "Hey, can I have that big gigantic bag of jelly beans?" She would say, "NO, you'll spoil your dinner." or "NO! THe sugar is bad for your teeth." But on these holidays, all bets are OFF. The heck with teeth, and the heck with dinner.

LOL Sorry...I just really like candy...lol

Even my girlfriend is crazy about candies. Every time she sees it in the store, she feels like purchasing it. She pushes me to have it like her but I always try to avoid it. I say her to grow up but that's the way she is. There is no difference between her and the small kids when it is about candies and chocolates.

I always tell my gf not to have so much of candies otherwise she will spoil her teeth and she will look like an aged woman with false teeth :) but she is least bothered.

Growing up is overrated.

I have a friend named Bryan who loves candy as much as me. About 1 month ago, we bought a jumbo box of chocolate truffles and those Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies, and went to my house and watched "I love the 80's" on VH1 and ate all of it. lol

I do enjoy ice cream, but my stomach does not...lol I get heart burn after I eat it. If I remember to take some medicine ahead of time, it doesn't act up so much. Stupid acid reflux.

I do try to have fun with life. If I have to live for the next 50-70 years or so, I should probably enjoy it.

And if I have to sell mattresses for a living, I better have a good sense of humor. This place will drive you nuts..With corporate pumping in some really bad "Muzak" radio, and coming up with hairbrained marketing ideas. (They're trying to convince me to have a "tent sale" in the parking lot. I answered back, "Just who do you expect to drag the crap outside in the morning, and back in at night?" LOL

Speaking of Easter (and taking a tangent from the sugar-laden conversation), I was in church last night, wailing and moaning with the choir. The place was littered with the grisly remains of the amputated sexual organs of a number of plant species. There was more pollen inside than out. I think it's odd that we still engage in the practice of getting the children worked up over the bunnies/eggs aspect of the Ishtar fertility rites. And Maypoles. Don't get me started on that one. I think that borders on abuse.

And Christmas! We sever a living tree from its subterranean organs and drag it inside and torture it with electricity for the amusement of the children.

I'm going to stick with the Feast of the Resurrection and the Feast of the Nativity, myself. Although I recognize I'm a heretic when it comes to the American Folk Religion; it's a good the true believers are all off watching football or something, 'cause they're too distracted to locate me and burn me at the stake.

I don't want to give anyone the idea that I don't care about the actual MEANING behind the holidays....Because I do!

I'll just take any excuse to consume large amounts of sugar....If they started passing out candy for presidents day, I'd be all about it..lol

I was raised knowing the true meaning, but still was excited for Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

Life's too short to take it too seriously. I've learned that in these past few years.

In the span of 6 months, I lost my grandmother to emphasema, then my best friends daughter was murdered..Then my closest Aunt was killed by a drunk driver, and 2 days after that another aunt was diagnosed with lung cancer and given 3 months to live, and lived for 2. (She had gone into the doctor to have her rib looked at because she had fallen and was afraid it had broken...They found a spot on her lung, and further tests found that it had spread to her brain and glands...She'd had it for around 7 years and didn't know it.)

So eat candy and laugh a lot...Tomorrow is not promised...That's just how I live my life.

I was not implying that you did not know the Meaning of the holidays and I cannot say don't enjoy the benefits but I do not think that children are being taught for the most part these days that the candy is only a nice side feature but the real gift is something else. I do not group all children into this statement by anymeans but I do think it applies to the majority

Jessi, I hear you..Life is way too short. I am very sorry about your bad time. I lost one of my best friends, my running partner, 2 years ago. then I had a miscarriage at 4 months in November of 2004. Then my Dad died of lung cancer last Easter. You rise above everything, and I really truly believe that the good outweighs the bad. You know, when i lost my dad I didn't even know how to function. Then a really close friend told me that this was a really bad thing that happened, but it's not the worst thing that ever happened. I know that might sound rude, but it really put things in perspective. As the old South American proverb says "I cried because I had no shoes, then I met a man with no feet." And that's how I live my life, being thankful for what I do have, and loving every minute of life. You learn a lot from your hard times.
wow..this thread sure got sad in a hurry, didn't it? I think I'm gonna go have some of Andrew's Easter candy. You guys want some?

Easter was always my favorite holiday as I child. It was always more special to me than Christmas because we didn't have to load up in the family car and drive in snow to various family residences. On Easter, me, my two brothers, and my dad would just kick back and share all the chocolate and marsmallows with each other. I always enjoyed it and we had fun. Every Easter was the most special time of my childhoos because it didn't incur any stress or pressure, just four family members enjoying each others company ad getting a sugar high while the lady of the house (mom) prepared coffee and breakfast. Christmas and Halloween were always an overblown pain in the shorts, so much hustle and bustle and so much work and money put into one day, and once it passed, you wondered what got you so excited.
