I'm going to close my checking account on Thursday after I pay the overdrawn amount.
Will I have problem opening another account? Has anyone experienced this.
I really need a checking account to pay my bills, and now I'm terrified that I'm ruined for the rest of my life because of these pdl's.
I don't know if they report this to teletrack or cetergy?

You shouldn't have any problem, since you're taking care of the problem and not waiting for it to go into collection mode or anything like that.

I, on the other hand, screwed up a few years ago...So I couldn't open one with any local banks, but since I have direct deposit, I opened one up with an online bank....After my payday loan fiasco I opened a checking with Etrade Financial, online...A little inconvenient since i can't go to them in person...But they work really well.

I forgot to add, the other big one to watch out for is Chexsystems. It's owned by Deluxe Check printing co, and they track negative acct info as well as bounced checks. They keep records for 5 yrs.

Here are links to lists of institutions that DON'T use Chexsystems:

chexsys.tripod.com/goodbanks.html

badcreditinfo.com/non_chexsystems_banks.htm

the above two have more detailed lists

creditservicer.com/nonchexsystemsbanks.html

Note: USAA reports to telecheck. They are a really decent financial inst, and very customer friendly. Located in Texas, but you don't have to live there.

Some more info on nasty Chexsystems:

LessIsMore,

If you do a Google search for Paypal and IRS, you can find more info on Paypal being asked to release customer records to the IRS.

What level of Paypal acct do you have? And here is more info about the Paypal debit card:

paypal.com/DCPOL

Three of the qualifications:

Have registered a credit card where the monthly statement is sent to a physical street address (not a P.O. Box). PayPal will only mail the Debit Card to this address; periodic statements and transaction information will be available on the PayPal website and not by mail.

Have linked a bank account to their PayPal account and verified control of the bank account

Have opened or upgraded to a Premier or Business account

I had no problem opening a new account at the same bank. And have had no problems with creditors debiting the new account, like some people have said on here...that might only happen if you had overdraft protection linked to another account, like savings. Acutally, here's what happened last Friday (my most recent payday):

I had closed my account on Wednesday afternoon, so the close request did not go through until Thurs. morning. Well, at BofA, it takes 24hrs. for the account to COMPLETELY close. So, on Friday, at midnight, when some of the PDL's tried to debit, because the old checking account was still linked to my savings, there was a $25 transfer from my savings to my OLD checking account. But, on Monday, since the account was then CLOSED for good, the $25 was back in my savings, safe as can be!!

So, I finally have those PDL's OUT of my accounts for good!!

NEVER AGAIN!!!

To update you all, I was able to close my checking account and paid $400 in fees and nsf's. They weren't interested in letting me open a new one..oh well.
But I was able to open another one at my credit union as well as a savings with overdraft protection. NO ONE is getting at this account!
