So far we have two creditors that state they won't work with T&C, or any credit counseling company. At this point, we can't afford to catch up what has not been paid (utilities etc) and pay these creditors and T&C, something has to give.

If Congress can require that consumers participate in a credit counseling program for 6 months before declaring bankruptcy, then why didn't they require that LENDERS agree to participate and work with the consumers? No, we have not and will not seek bankruptcy relief, I'm just so mad that the law weighs so heavily against consumers now.

About 8 years ago we did a consumer credit counseling-type program through my employer (a credit union). We were not delinquent upon entering the program, but even after accepting the proposals most of the companies reported us as delinquent the entire year we were in the program. And we had asked those same companies for help before doing the budgetary counseling (lowering interest rates, lowering payments etc) and we were refused, because the accounts were current. They wouldn't grant any concessions because the accts weren't delinquent. What a crock.

Sorry, just needed to rant for a moment. :)

All the cool kids come here to rant. :)

Keep on them, they'll cave eventually...And don't put yourself out for them..Pay what's necessary and if they want their money, they can do it on your terms.

I called the guy from Arrow on a daily basis and bothered HIM for a change...He got tired of me, and did what I wanted him to do. I still call him when I get bored...like "What's my balance now? Do you like Muenster cheese?" LOL

Thanks for the moral support, I really needed it. Hubby is at sea so I'm fighting the battle on my own right now.

Sue, the companies that won't work with T&C are Armed Forces Lending and Pioneer Military lending. Both are small loan companies that only lend to military/ govt employees. And yes, they charge extra fees.

True enough. I think this is the time to work with this issue. Let's do some research and check if there is any such law in our state or under UCC that is applicable to lenders and creditors. It might be that we are missing the triumph card.

When I spoke to a T&C rep today, she said that many companies do protest working with a debt consolidation company, but that there wasn't a way to force them. The only thing to do is keep sending payments. If they accept it, you have proof of payment. If they refuse it, they are being stupid.

But I think letters to our Congressional reps are in order. If they can change the law once, they can change it again to even the playing field a little. It isn't fair that we are at the mercy of "goodwill" on a company's part, when we are honestly trying to make good on our debt.

Unfortunately this is true Dana. Laws do not compel them accept the payment. However, I think it somehow depends upon the consolidation company you are working with. A company has been in business for a long time, can clearly recognize the points where to catch the creditors. They negotiate professionally and sometimes offer a higher amount if needed too. It's all about your ability selling ability, you know.

I was told by my debt settlement that they "work" with all my companies however, some are more "difficult to work with." Does that make sense? Also,
I am having those two card people tell me that they DO NOT and WILL not work with these types of companies. I was told they would tell me that.

Chase, Providian (Washington Mutual) and Bank of America is the cards that seem to be cooperating the most.

I have my truck payment through Bank of America and....my settlement company has opened up an acct through them to manage my money on my program. BOA is really cool and are cooperating.

Linda, some companies won't accept your proposal in the beginning. They also sound tough with any debt management company hired in the process. Your consultant will responsibly negotiate with the company and arrange a payment plan. The credit companies want to have their money back. They will definitely accept the proposal from your consultant. Make sure that you keep sending the money towards the account with the settlement company. Once the proposal is final, money is sent to the credit company at once.

I actually had a PDL which I had included in on my T&C account send me a notice of an impending civil warrant. When I called T&C and asked them what I should do they informed me that this company had already agreed to the payment plan through them!!! This is after repeated statements that they would NOT work with any debt consolidation program.

T&C is also a consolidation company that works on payday loans. Most of the consolidation companies are not willing to work with payday lenders. T&C just helps them out.

Call your consolidation company and arrange your payment plans with them. He will negotiate with your creditors and guide you throughout the program. You will become debt free at the end of the program :)

T&C Acceptance corporation is located in Birmingham AL and works with payday lenders and other creditors. There are a lot of us on here are with them because we got ourselves in trouble with payday loans and they have been able to help us. Also, just an FYI they are a debt management company not a consolidation company. Welcome to the boards!
