I received a summons on March 30, 2006 from The County Court of Polk County. Palisades Collection LLC AAS ATT&T % ACEVEDO KARINA, ESQUIRE out of Plantation Florida. They are saying that I owe a 1799.89 on the summons, and they have sent me a letter in March saying that I owed 2126.78. I am at lost on what to due. I have a court date of May 12,2006. I had AT&T in the past (June 2003), but I got out of the contract early and went to cingular who has now merged with At&t. Why haven't they (cingular) sent me anything saying I have an outstading bill(which I don't believe I have) Why now after 3 years have I been contacted. What do I do to resolve this matter and make it go away?
Please help I am desperate.

I am not sure if you have the time before the court hearing to ask for validation of the account. There are several postings on this forum for validation letters. Cingular may have merged with ATT but this does not mean that they are holding the bill from ATT. You may want to consult a lawyer as to what to do next. It would seem that they would have to validate the billing and show proof this is your bill.
You may also want to contact ATT yourself and request a copy of your bill complete with a history on your account that you had with them, if you don't already have the information on file. This way if you do not owe them then you can show the proof in court with out receiving the validation first.

Khristina,

Consult a lawyer first. A lawyer can tell you how you can deal them legally.

You have mentioned that they had sent you a letter in March. Did you reply to that letter? I think that was kinda validation. See a lawyer with all the letters you have.

BTW, have you received the summons by mail or you were served? Is it signed by a clerk of court? You can visit this thread for more information-
