I have been trying to find a company that would offer a loan even though my credit is bad. I have been trying to consolidate so turned to the internet (that is how I found this great forum). Carlton Financial Group out of Baltimore, MD contacted me today and offered a loan for $6,000 (that is there minimum according to there website, carltonfinancialgroup.net). They are supposed to email me a contract this evening (I had to email my latest paycheck stub, driver's license, and social security). The terms supposedly are for two years and the first 3 payments have to be made up front, since it is an unsecured loan, via western union and the balance of the $6,000 loan can be wired into my account in 12-24 hours or a check can be mailed. They prefer to wire the money. Has anyone heard of them or ever gotten a loan through them. If this is legit, it would be a godsend right now. Can't find them listed with the Better Business Bureau. Oh, the number from the guy that initially contacted me is 866-431-2226.

I did a Google search to find them, and on the contact page there is an address listed for Baltimore. Financial companies in Maryland are regulated by the Commissioner of Financial Regulation in the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.

Here is their website:
http://www.dllr.state.md.us/finance/

I would also check with them to see if the company is legit

If they are asking for you to wire 3 payments upfront, I would stay far far away.

Absolutely true. Advance fee loans are not good always. You should do some research before doing business with them and try to stay away from them.

And why are you looking for loan to pay off your debts? Since you have unpaid debts, you might be declined for more credit. Or the lender will ask for your home to be put as collateral. Then you chance the risk of losing home. Consolidate your debts. debt consolidation program will reduce the rate of interest and waive late fees, over the limit charges. As a result, monthly payment will come within your scope.

Debt consolidation is also good for your credit in the long run. Interact with the members here and know how to proceed now. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice Stella. I declined on the loan. I needed the loan to pay off 14 payday loans to stop the interest. If the payday loans were paid off I would have $1,600 additional money per month after paying my other bills. I was trying to find someone that would let me pay $1,000 a month for a loan. My credit is really bad and have tried the bigger loan companies: citifinancial, beneficial, american general.

I'm going to close my checking account as soon as I get it to a positive balance, currently is -$650, and deal with the pdl companies individually. Unfortunately I'm going to get hit with $1,600 worth of ach debits again next Friday putting me further into a negative balance. I really don't know how to handle this. I hate I'm gonna get hit with $1,600 worth of pdl withdrawals at one time.

Can you ask your bank to block the ACH attempts? Or is the bank requiring that you bring the acct positive before they will do so? I ask because that is what my bank told me, so I said yeah right, and opened an acct elsewhere so we could transfer direct deposits etc. And there should likely be no charge to freeze the account.

Since you want to try to find a better way to pay off the payday loan companies, I wouldn't allow them to overdraw your acct more than it already is.

You're in NC, right? So you can't work with T&C. I thought I had read of other debt consolidation companies that work with payday lenders.

That's right, i'm in NC. The bank told me this week I would have to have a positive balance to close the account. I didn't ask them about freezing it or blocking the ACH attempts. I will contact them Monday to see if I can do that. I don't know of any other people that work with PDL consoliation other than T&C.

radec, I remember seeing other posts, about other companies. I'll see what I can find in the forums.

Yes, my bank didn't say anything about freezing the acct either, or doing anything at all. I was told the acct had to be positive before they would do anything. Made me so peeved, as I imagine it is for you, because how can we get it positive if , as soon as we do, the bank lets the companies withdraw the money again? And my bank was paying the withdrawals as overdrafts as well. It was a vicious cycle. I had contacted the PDL companies, withdrawing authorization, so I sent the bank a notarized statement of unauthorized withdrawal. That seemed to finally make them realize I was serious that I wanted the debits stopped, that I wasn't going to continue to pay the overdrafts and the o/d fees. I had already signed with T&C, and paid the retainer fee, and the companies had been sent proposals.

Anyways, yes first thing Monday I would call the bank, though you may have to make the request in writing. Good luck! It's horrible to be trying to get out from underneath this mess, and it seems like the bank is on the other guy's side.

hey radec, i also looked into that company Carlton Financial, and they are definitely fishy, i sent them my info and everything then when i called to make sure that they received everything the numbers were disconnected, which really upset me cause i couldnt believe i gave them all that info without doing a thorough search on them. WHen you do look up carlton financial there seems to be so many different companies with that name its hard to determine the validity of the company. but on their website you can if you look at their contact info this company is based in toronto. anyway i finally reached someone today using a different phone and someone finally answered. it seems like they have caller id or something and block incoming calls from familiar people. im glad i caught your post cause it verified my suspicions. Im looking high and low for a legitimate loan of $5,000.00 to catch up on everything including my secured debts, most companies only offer loans for unsecured and when i do find personal loans they end up being like carlton with that whole pay up front then get the loan. i wish you luck on your search and if i find anything ill post it here. I live in NY so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Donovan, I'm glad my post helped you. I cannot believe the number of companies that scam people on line. I guess I'm a gullible kind of guy but more likely desparate when the bills get to be more than I can handle. I actually closed my bank account last week as I was a little worried that I had faxed my paycheck stub to Carlton Financial and it had my bank account number on it since I have direct deposit. My bank was really cool about it, especially after I told them about all the bad experiences I had read on this website of corrupt so-called companies taking advantage of innocent, desparate people. I wish you luck too finding something or someone to help you. I will post here, as well, if I find anything.

I,ve tried over and over but can't even get a fax thru. I'm in Florida and need to hear more about this business. Needing to get a loan is for bills and expenses, but if I lose 2-3 payments before ever getting the loan my family would truly suffer.

I just signed papers today for pay day loan help with family credit counseling service. I too am from nc and have had the same problems. They told me to go to the bank and stop payment on the loans and that they would take care of the rest. I am nervous and scared, not sure if i did the right thing, but if it works i will be sure to tell you.

Hi REDRNOR3

Do not worry! You did the right thing by putting a stop payment on the loans because you don't have the funds with you. The lenders will try to contact you because of not receiving the funds. Let your consultant negotiate with them for a reasonable pay off. He will take care of this matter for you. Don't tense yourself.

This company is definitely not legit. I did the same thing this past Friday and I haven't seen anything yet. They also won't answer any of my calls. Have any of you had to get a lawyer involved and how did things turn out?

A fried of mine went through the entire process of sending in the 3 payments and NEVER got her money. After sending in the payment via wesntern union, they stopped calling her, changed their phone number and address. My friend call 911 and reported them to the Atty Gen's office. She got a call back from 911 dispatched saying that they had sent an officer to check out the place and there was no such business address but a residential address. After further investigation, she discovered that they were based from Canada. A week later a company called me offering the same terms but different company name. I decided to take it further and asked them for their business licensing number, etc. The next time I talked to them, I had informed them that they were be recorded and the number was being traced.....THEY HUNG UP. About a week ago, a friend of mines got scammed the same way. There was no way for both friends to get their money back...just a lessoned learned.
