technically the creditor stays on your credit report for 7 years
technically the creditor stays on your credit report for 7 years but there is more to it than that- statute of limitations on the debt according to your state, whether the creditor sells the debt to a collection agency. And some companies (like mortgage companies) will go back 10 years for a credit report. So there isn't a real yes/ no answer.
