I have reason to believe that my son's Father is using his social security number. I am his mother and I take care of him, what do i need to do??

My name is Shameka White

You can get a credit report on your son through annualcreditreport.com for free to see if there are any weird things on there. Is he under 18? Is the Father paying child support? If yes, then contact the child support agency and tell them the situation. They can probably tell you some more legal actions you could take. I hope this helps.

Hi Shameka

Using someone else's social security number is a federal crime. You can report the matter to the local consumer protection office as well as the credit bureau so that invalid accounts are not opened in his name.

If you don't take this step, your son will have unknown accounts opened in his name and the creditors will hound him asking for money. So, there is a need to make a choice at this stage.
