Jodo-If you are talking about closing your account due to drafts from pdl companies? You can open another account, but the bank may not let you until the old account is cleared up. I would suggest that you talk with a bank officer at your bank and explain what has happened. My son got in a big mess with overdrafts at his bank and I dragged him to the bank and spoke with an officer. They were very understanding, and let him pay off his charges, and when that was over a little while later they let him open a new account. But you have to talk with them, don't ignore it,I know from personal experience, that just makes things worse. Best of luck-let us know what happens :) ...Karen

Have you tried going to another bank or credit union to open an account? Sometimes that is a better option than another acct at the same bank. That also gives you an acct for direct deposit, paying bills etc, that isn't accessible by the pdl companies, while you are paying off the fees from your current account.

Hi jodobritt
I will like to add here that the unpaid accounts are reported to the chexsystem. So, negative information with your bank might be reported to the Chexsystem and that will hurt your credit for 5 years. You might have problems in opening new accounts with other banks since they will check your file in the chexsystem. It is better to pay off the charges before closing the account.
