2 months ago I stopped my debt consolidation plan with A NEw Horizon. I was not satisfied with them and found out that one of my ccards actually increased by $3,000.00 because they didnt negotiate the interest rates. Well, I had all intentions of joining a new company through this website but my husband got very sick and is now on disablity. I am also due with our 2nd child in 4 weeks ( Un-paid maternity leave) My husband has also stopped paying on his Credit cards. Our goal is to consolidate again in January when we are both back to work. Should I call these collection agaensies back to tell them this? Or just wait and avoid them? They really cause me a great deal of stress. One is calling me at work everyday. Im scared they will call my boss again ( they have done that in the past) even after I said dont call at work.

Hi dmoonchild

Welcome to the forums. If the collection agency is repeatedly calling at your place of work, then it is a repeated offense as per the fdcpa law. Write a letter to them stating your consumer rights that you don't wish to communicate with them and they are instructed to cease all the collection activities. If they do not abide by the Federal and the State law, you have the right to take legal actions against them.

I am sorry that you were unable to see a reduction in the total amount of your debt through the consolidation company you registered earlier. Did you ask for a legal explanation from them about not negotiating the interest rates?

Regarding the present debt that is in the collections, I understand that you are willing to start the consolidation program from January and pay towards your debt regularly. You can definitely do so and ask the collection agency to stop all the collection efforts.

I will suggest you to take the counseling from the expert. If the plan that is offered to you is up to your satisfaction at the present situation, you can pay towards your debt smoothly. Or you can wait till January if that suits you. I was hoping that as early you pay towards your debt, the sooner your credit will improve.
