Someone from "Anthony Galloway and Associates" called me today about a loan that I paid in full!! (And I have the bank documents to prove it!). At the time of their call, I was confused and did not know until later what the actual discrepancy was. They asked me to pay $521.50 by noon today. Being initially scared by their "arrest" threats, I agreed to pay. After the call, I searched on the internet, and found this website! Thank you! I now know they have no legal ability to do anything they threaten. My question is: will they have some legal recourse against me since I did agree to make the payment today??

Here is what I said:

Quote:

Technically since they threatened arrest, they would have no right to take any legal action. Even if you still owe on the loan. You need to call them back, and ask for their mailing address...this way, you can send them a validation letter.

PS: Did you get a name/number on your caller ID?

Mike

I do not have caller id at work, and that is where they called me. I do not actually owe this loan, and paid it off in three installments. I tried to call the original lender, but that number has been disconnected. I just got another call from Anthony Galloway and Associates. I told them that we were speaking on a recorded line, and that my attorney had advised me to make no payments to them. I stated that I had bank documentation showing the payments (which I do have), and I asked for an address where that could be sent. "Max" said, "Thank You." and hung up. Do you think they will continue to call?

No, I don't think they'll call you back. However, you still need to protect yourself, and lodge a complaint against them for trying to collect on a debt that has been paid. If these are the same people, Ellis Crosby & Associates would resell the account after it had been paid. Perhaps this is the same company, and they just packed up their files and relocated ASAP so they could continue bringing in their paycheck.

Check your credit report sometime in the near future.

Mike

Jessica,

If the company calling you is Anthony Galloway & Associates, do keep two things in mind. You don't have to pay them any money because this company is working in the disguise of Ellis Crosby and Associates. Ted Crosby earlier used this name while doing business. Place a search in the name of this company and you will get more information in this forum.

Secondly, do not get intimidated or scared while you talk to them. Tell them that you are recording the phone calls and you will take legal help in this matter. Earlier, Ellis Crosby was using the same tactics in their collections. Numerous complaints have been filed in the FTC, BBB and the state attorney general office and as a result, the company has filed for bankruptcy after undergoing legal actions. It is after this incidence, the company has started using this new name. So, you need to file complaints against them at the bureaus.
