i received a letter from the payroll depart of the company i work for stating that asset acceptance, is going to garnish my wages! i have never received anything from this company in regards to this, so how could they just state that they can garnish my wages?

If asset is working a student loan,they can garnish without court.Otherwise it requires judgement as you have been told.That letter sent to your company should have some court information on it. Get yourself to that court and pull your entire file.If they got an illegal judgement,you will have to fight the garnishment thru the court system.

My money is on it either being a wage assignment or a student loan or other fed debt. In my 7 yrs in HR i have handled probably thousands of garnishments..I have never seen an illegal one.

Cajun is right. If it is a student loan, they can jump right over due process, bypassing even the sheriff's office, and go straight for garnishment.
