Hi MD
I conducted a detailed search while looking for this company but they are not listed anywhere. It must be that some shady company is using an illegal name to extract money from you. Did you contact the secretary of your state for some information on them?
As you are assuming that this debt has been already paid, did you contact the original creditor and confirm the status of this loan? Also, you can check your latest credit report and see if they have not put any negative remark in your credit file.
I will keep searching for this company and will let you know as soon as I find something on them.

They answer the phone hello...
I would be extremely leary to anyone who deals this with this company.
Safe bet for anyone, tell them you are recording the call when they contact you. Be extremely nice, and just mention that they need to validate this debt...because of past experiences of fraud. If they are unwilling to cooperate, tell them to go ahead and send the case to their attorney, as you are now contacting your local police department for harassment.
Chances are they'll be willing to send validation or otherwise face consequences.

I tried that tactic. I told the lady I was recording the conversation. She then got real loud and started to yell at me. She called me a liar and said I need to pay the consequences. I told her all I want is the validation and then I would gladly pay. I also told her that I had proof of my payoff and how could I get this proof to her (trying to sneak an address or fax number) but she said she wanted a confirmation number. I told her I didn't have a confirmation number, just receipts and I could mail or fax her a copy. Then she got real nasty and told me I did not pay anything off if I didn't have the confirmation number. She told me I was lying again and I need to face the consequences and I will be arrested. They are just like Ellis, Crosby & Associates. In fact, the account they are after is the one Ellis had and I sent Ellis a validation letter. I think they are tied into Ellis somehow. I really wouldn't mind paying, but I need to do my homework and confirm if this has been taken care of. Also, this company is charging me 521.50 for a $200 loan - that's crazy! I remember paying the $200 in the past but not through my checking account.

At that time, all you need to do is say...
"This call is still being recorded. You are ordered to cease communication with me, and I am contacting my local sherrifs department."
...and hang up!
No one deserves to be treated the way you were...even if the debt is yours, and still unpaid. Every consumer has a right to validation, as well as mailing in their payment. If they are concerned for their safety, perhaps they need to get a post office box (opinion only).
Many companies from the Jacksonville, FL area are harassing debt consumers. I find it very odd that they can get away with this.
You also might want to contact the Flordia Attorney Gerneral, as well as make a complain on the BBB site.
Going through some of the Ellis Crosby or Allen Lewis forums will give you an idea...that this isn't new for Flordia collection companies.

If this is a legitimate company, then it should be definitely listed with the consumer protection office in your state. I also searched for this company but couldn't get anything specifically.
Check with your local DA's office and seek information on this company.
Anthony Galloway and Associates
Someone from "Anthony Galloway and Associates" called me today about a loan that I paid in full!! (And I have the bank documents to prove it!). At the time of their call, I was confused and did not know until later what the actual discrepancy was. They asked me to pay $521.50 by noon today. Being initally scared by their "arrest" threats, I agreed to pay. After the call, I searched on the internet, and found this website! Thank you! I now know they have no legal ability to do anything they threaten. My question is: will they have some legal recourse against me since I did agree to make the payment today??

Technically since they threatened arrest, they would have no right to take any legal action. Even if you still owe on the loan. You need to call them back, and ask for their mailing address...this way, you can send them a validation letter.

PS: Did you get a name/number on your caller ID?

Hi Katey
People are reporting that Ted Crosby is using the name Anthony Galloway and Associates to conduct his collection business. Crosby has already filed for bankruptcy and is undergoing many legal actions.
Do not fear as they are restricted from doing any collection activity in the first place. Please do check your credit report often and see if any negative information is placed by them.
Anthony Galloway
I received a call from Anthony Galloway asking me to set up a payment and he started cursing at me and told me I was going to be arrested has this happned to anybody else.

Hi Phyllis
Welcome to the forums.
Have you heard about Ellis Crosby who used illegal collection methods while recovering debts from the consumers? This company has filed for bankruptcy and now they are using the name Anthony Galloway and Associates which was used by Ted Crosby earlier.
They might have changed their names in doing business but the illegal technique still remains the same. Do not fear from them. Ask them on what grounds will they arrest you? They don't have the legal rights to do so.
If they are pursuing collections, then they need to give you debt validation for the said account. Without knowing the actual details of the account, you can refuse to pay. Send a letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. This will help you to make sure that your letter has been delivered to them.
If they call you up on phone, you can start recording the phone calls. Tell them that the call is being recorded and you wish to file a case against them on charges of harassment.
Hope this works at your way. If you have a problem, please do it here for further suggestions.
