Does anyone with at least 1 chex entry have a checking and savings with Patelco? I applied last month, faxed the documentation need, was approved and got my checks and ATM card (no checkcard due to credit score) last week. I read in Jtel's post that they were relaxing their standards. I am looking for a replacement for my Netbank account since ING deems me unworthy of their business. :lol:

Has anyone applied at Patelco, been approved, only to have the account closed later?

hmmm that is a very good question. I know that Patelso uses chexsystems but yes there are banks and credit unions that will approve accounts even with a chexsystems report.
1. sometimes they allow it if the report shows as paid and no fraud
2. sometimes they allow it if it just shows as paid
3. somestimes it depends on how old the report is

So it just really depends ..I do know that sometimes certain banks and credit unions will WAIT until they have the signature card back from a customer before they run through chexsystems..dumb yes but some will just say it is a policy , others say they HAVE to have the signature card in order to run it.

yea I saw that too but the list of banks and credit unions liste

yea I saw that too but the list of banks and credit unions listed will not necessarily for sure give you an account if you have been on chexsystems ..so i really don't know why it says that. Many people just within a month ago that I know of have been turned down by some of those banks :evil:

'Bank on San Francisco' is a effort by the city of San Francisco to get more people in the banking system. Only the listed branches are participating.

Are stating that you know of people who have walked into one of those listed branches and not been able to get an account? This can't be done online or at any other branches.

About Bank on San Francisco

Bank on San Francisco is a joint effort of Mayor Gavin Newsom, Treasurer Jos???? Cisneros, and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. San Francisco is the first city in the nation to develop a program of this kind to help everyone to enter the financial mainstream and start saving for the future.

An estimated 50,000 households in San Francisco are unbanked, representing nearly 15 percent of all households in the city.

Among African Americans and Latinos, approximately half of the adult population does not have a checking or savings account.

Focus groups with unbanked consumers in San Francisco reveal that they would prefer to have a bank account than to use check cashers, but that they do not know of banks that offer low cost accounts or are worried that they will not be allowed to open an account because of their credit history or because they lack the proper ID.

Our goal is to bring 10,000 of the estimated 50,000 unbanked households in San Francisco into the financial mainstream by helping them to open a low-cost, starter bank account. To accomplish this goal, we turned to the financial institutions in the city to demonstrate leadership and to help remove the barriers that low-income families face in opening a bank account.

As part of Bank on San Francisco, we worked with financial institutions to:

Develop a checkless, low-cost product that meets the needs of unbanked consumers. The structure of many accounts????????with high minimum balances and fees????????is a key factor keeping the unbanked out of the financial mainstream.

Adapt internal systems to allow customers on ChexSystems to open ???????second chance??????? checking accounts.

Accept alternative forms of identification, such as consular identification cards. For many immigrants, the barrier to opening an account is having the proper documentation.

Expand marketing in targeted, low-income neighborhoods. Increase the visibility of appropriate products in San Francisco and develop new strategies to reach unbanked customers in low-income neighborhoods.

Partner with nonprofits in San Francisco to identify customers ready to enter the financial mainstream.

This is a program started for those who are unbanked. Many of the participating banks will still have policies as to who they will approve if you are reported to chexsystems so be sure to check with a local bank near you to find out policies before applying.

Some of these banks will NOT open accounts for those reported to chexsystems and are only looking to help those that are unbanked and not reported
