I've never heard of this. How hard is it to get reported to this thing. I've bounced a few checks in my time, and closed a few accounts rather then bounce checks. But as far I know, i havn't been reported to these folks. At least as far as I know. I 've opened accounts the last few years at Chase, 5/3, U.S Bank and a credit union with no problems. Is it hard to get reported to these people??

If you have overdraft charges on a checking account and the bank ends up closing the account and turning the charges over for collection, they will usually report you to Chexsystems.

Also, I have heard of banks reporting you to Chexsystems if you continually have returned items on your account and then close it. They report the account for having a lot of NSF activity. I think they do this so you won't be able to go bank somewhere else so easily if you close your account with them.

It takes 5 years for an account to be removed from Chexsystems, unless you go through the dispute process and have it removed.

It would be worth ordering a copy of your report to see if any accounts have been reported to Chexsystems.

There are some banks and financial institutions that will open an account for someone who has accounts reported to Chexsystems, and there are also some banks/financial institutions that don't even check before opening an account. So, just because you've been able to open some accounts in the past few years, that doesn't necessarily mean you don't have anything reported. Get your report just to see what's what.

No way in hell you're on Chex then.. Chase definitely sweeps and 5/3 minus a previous poster who got lucky (no offense you got lucky, most folks don't have luck with 5/3) and on top of it a credit union.. (we'll ignore US BANK after all, find yourself a grocery and you're in.. we don't have that option on the east coast unlike the midwest folks!) anyway.. you're fine, you can always order a copy of the CHEX report, however, I'm sure you're clear if you have a few accounts!

yea, i'm not on chexsystem thank God. I just opened another account at U.S bank. I was in there today and asked the teller if she could tell me if I was on chexsystems or not. She said she couldn't say for sure but was 99% sure I wasn't. She said it wouldn't matter to them anyways, they would still open an account for me. But, she said those accounts are called second chance accounts. Same bank acount as a regular one, but it's monitored a bit closer.
