Does anyone know of a good bank that will approve a new checking and/or savings account for people on ChexSystems?

I went to the site, but couldn't find any list. I found a place to enter my info and they stated they'd send me an email within 24 hours, but haven't gotten anything yet. Can someone pm me the list? I'm looking for Alabama with zip code 36420

I have Woodforest and I can tell you they've been a little good, but mostly awful. First of all, I thought that I'd only qualify for 2nd chance checking since I had been reported to chex, but I qualified for regular checking. So I saved the $9.99 a month. (that's just about the only good).

But they do charge you $12 per year for each debit card you have. My husband and I were just charged $24 in August for our 2 debit cards. Then my debit card number was stolen and I had to have the card replaced in September. And they made me pay $12 AGAIN.

They also rarely, and I mean RARELY give customers a break in refunding fees. I had two transactions debited to my account. Both should have been for $22 each.

Now I knew that I only had enough for one to clear, but my husband was getting paid in a few days and it would cover the overdraft. Their overdraft fees are $34 per transaction. So, the company charged my card $21 twice. It turns out that $1 of the $22 that I paid was a transaction fee. I wasn't aware, nor was I made aware by the company that the $21 and the $1 would be billed separately.

So, my pending transactions looked like $21, $21, $1, $1. When I thought it would be $22, $22.

The first $21 cleared. The second did not. I got hit with a $34 OD fee. Then the $1 hit, another $34 fee, then the other $1 hit, another $34 fee.

I called Woodforest and explained to them the situation. I've been a customer of theirs for years now and thought they would waive the 2 $34 fees for the $1 charges. I was basically told "tough luck".

Also, they are horribly guilty of posting the largest transactions first to maximize their OD fees. If I charge $10 on Monday. Then charge $75 on Friday at the same store, they will clear the $75 first.

They did that to me once and I ended up paying $400 in OD fees. They will hold small charges in your pending transactions for up to a week at a time. They say that it's the company charging your account that isn't processing the actual charge. But overdraft your account one time and see how fast they clear out your pending transactiosn to get every last cent of OD fees that they can.

I purposely did it once just to see what would happen. I charged $20 to my card at a local gas station when my account was in the positive. It took them a week to clear it from my pending transactions.

Then I charged $20 to my card at the same gas station when I knew it would overdraft me. Magically it cleared my account the very next day!

They also hold direct deposit in pending transactions for 24-48 hours. Which means if you're counting on it to cover an overdraft, your SOL.

Overall not a good bank. But if you have no other options, I suppose it's better than nothing.

And to make a comment about anc526's post, subprime bank got you right by the b**ls. In the end you pay them alot of money in fees and costs just for having an account. The bank I am with now, I live in Ohio, is Huntington. I don't know why but they let me open and account and for only $5. Huntington is on of Ohio's bigger banks and I have had a few "fees"issues and they refunded my money without speaking to anyone, I sent them an email. Now a days, it is hit or miss with banks. Another bank in Ohio which is subprime, did not allow me to open an account. Go figure!
