As a long long multi-user of the former Chexvictims, I was in tears to find Mary here.

Life has been very quiet not having a forum to scream to and continue on searching for financial institutions that aren't completely ridiculous.

For folks who don't know of MCA and her many wonders, she is truly a guardian angel. She has been an inspiration to many and saved lives compliments of her timeless work.

I personally have started on my way to becoming a consumer advocate, now willing to challenge most anything from bad banking to s***ty insurance companies back to aggressive collectors outsourced from India. I have practically made friends at the FTC from calling so often.

My latest absolutely mortifying moment started just 3 weeks ago when my good ol' friends at Wachovia (my first Chex entry 7 years ago when they bought First Union and my $7.30 cent debt at 17 years old) gave me a personal account. I knew the branch manager on a personal note at my new local Wachovia yet I applied and was approved online so I didn't have help in getting the account, they just did it for me. I watched it for 4 days straight, logging in every 2 hours or so and in the morning would dash downstairs or roll over and hit my blackberry browser to check it's status.

Low and behold.. My $100 disappeared from the account on the 4th day (it sounds like the story of the Bible haha and on the 4th day LOSS MANAGEMENT CAST A DARK CLOUD ACROSS MY NAME) I couldn't log-in. So I called and was told about "YOU GUESSED IT!" EARLY WARNING SERVICES.

Well first off, I hit the record button on my phone because I no longer trust anyone and I say it casually as I'm talking and only once out of maybe 50+ calls, has anyone ever awknowledged that I say "hey just like you all for quality assurance this call may be monitored" according to the law that's all it takes, so now I have proof of each and every conversation because as we all know, you can speak to 4 different individuals in 4 different departments at a bank and get 104 seperate answers to the same question.

So.. Early Warning is owned by Wachovia, BB&T and a few other major banks.. well strike one is the fact that BB&T (who I never banked with) reported me for an account, I never opened. Well that's just swell. Now if you are loss management and you work directly with Early Warning, why in the hell would you bother check it after you open the account. You pick up the phone and say Hey! I need to meet my quota today, can we check this fool out before he robs us for a few grand.. I mean seriously. So I call Early Warning (Arizona call centers must be very hot because everyone there sounded like they were dying of some epidemic), I was told sure, we'll contact BB&T don't worry about it, it's not your account, no big shake.

YEAH OK. Let's fast forward 2 weeks, no contact from Early Warning, I demanded to withdrawal $90 of the 100 in my Wachovia because I had these grand visions of keeping the account (it was closed before I ever called them to see why I couldn't login), so I forget about this $10 bucks, I stop into a branch while on holiday and say hey, I need my 10 bucks, and the rep says "Oh well they mailed a check out" fine no problem, I don't check my mail much, nothing good ever shows up so whatever.. well yesterday I get my statement from Wachovia, showing a debit of the final $10 dollars and a note for account closure.

I pick up the phone repeat my favorite quality assurance line while the woman is busy talking to over her cubicle wall instead of listening to me after all she is only Loss Management's Supervisor (because I know how to find the best idiots who still can't help me). Well Well Well.. that $10 went to ACCOUNT CLOSURE FEE's.. okay well the first thing out of my mouth as I'm flipping through my Wachovia user agreement, there is no such thing and the woman said well I work here I know and *CLICK* have a good day is what I got.. not real bright Sharon in Charlotte NC, you've just been busted on a little bad banking, so a quick call to my buddy at the local Wachovia branch and YES infact having had no CHECKS, no CHECK card, no ACH transactions, there is NO ACCOUNT FEE for closing (especially involuntarily) for this sort of thing. Well I'll be damned, someone just stole my 10 bucks.

I'm off on a tangent I know but back to Early Warning so all of an hour ago, my mail came ridiculously early, I get this certifed letter from EWS (meanwhile as with MCA, I too did all my research on the idiots of the Chandler Arizona LLC from hell) stating they were removing the information and I should contact the financial instution who denied my account/membership (dead give away they use credit unions) and remit a copy of this letter.

RING RING Wachovia, hi this is the disgruntled and disenchanted individual who you stole $10 dollars from and 7 years ago ruined my damn life before I was even 18 because I had no bank, yes hi! it's me and I'd like to let you know out of principle I want my damn account bank and if you're lucky I wont stuff an empty envelope in your ATM's for kicks (haha thats so wrong to say but I'm kinda spunky this morning) well Loss Management proceeds to tell me that, my letter isn't enough for them and they can't call EWS it has to be updated on the report. (Well you know she didn't even have a name for me yet over the phone so how ARE YOU SURE!?!? it isnt already updated on my report you haven't looked up).

So I hung up.. and in looking back at it all, EWS works with CO-OP credit union affiliates that screams shared branching nightmare.. so I have to wonder, will the world most convenient banking options be shattered by the EWS & eFunds of the world?

I'm lost and pissed off and everything else you can think of right now, I'm that too..

I'm done.. this wasn't completely a rant more like a bad lesson in loss management when you haven't lost anything at all except your patience..

Have a wonderful Friday :)

Wow I am not sure what to say about that compliment but it is great to know that I am not here for nothing and I can still help people that need it.

Yes, it is true that many many CO-OP credit unions are now using EWS. It is with their partnership that this is possible.
One of the favorites in Arizona ..Arizona federal Credit union have been denying people accounts not because of chexsystems but because of EWS. DEVISTATING !!!

Do you think being reported to chexsystems is bad? Well that is nothing compared to Early Warning Systems
( EWS ). More and more people are telling me that they are being denied accounts not because of chexsystems, but due to EWS. This seems to be happening more with credit unions than banks from what I can tell. In the last 4 months I have had 6 people tell me that they were denied due to EWS at a credit union.

I decided to look into it more so because these people are on chexsystems so how have they been reported to EWS? I thought to myself, how can EWS have the information from chexsystems? This is what I have found so far.

Early Warning Systems ( previously Primary Payment Systems ) is now being used by banks and credit unions the same as chexsystems. Along with other participating organizations, they now share information about potential customers that may be a risk through Identity Check . Identity check distinguishes high-risk individuals from profitable customers the same as chexsystems.

They also have Deposit Chek . Deposit Check is a service that is a proven solution to help prevent fraud and expedite funds availability decisions at the teller window, new account desk, image ATM, online banking and/or the back office. ( this service is some what similar to chexsystems SCAN )

Several organizations have partnered with Early Warning Services to help increase awareness and make the following services more accessible to credit unions. As you can see this includes many, many credit unions that were once chex-friendly. CO-OP Financial Services who is listed as a partner with EWS also signed a multi-year contract with eFunds Corp ( chexsystems ) April 2007. Go here to read the article.

Here is some information from the EWS site....

Providing solutions to help prevent all three, Early Warning Services operates and maintains a common platform whereby various organizations share their most current information on accounts, transactions and identities. Shared information, when used exclusively for loss prevention, has proven repeatedly to be the most effective form of protecting your institution as well as the customers you serve.

In my dealings with PPS now EWS, I have found that they are almost borderline paranoid. They will put you on EWS for NSF account closure, fraud, account abuse, kiting, ATM abuse, etc. Just about anything can get you on these lists. You are guilty until proven innocent.
