We currently have Wamu/Chase but want to change to someone else. We have a bankruptcy 2008 and our home is in forclosure now. We have not bounced anything in a year and even then, we paid it up within the week it happened.

Question is: does the foreclosure and bankruptcy prevent us from opening a new checking account with another bank??

I am not sure about how banks do things now, with the economy the way it is. But we opened a checking account with a local bank right after our BK. And then a few years ago, we had pretty bad credit again and opened a checking and savings account with our local credit union. Which was WAY better than the bank. We had to close our other account due to payday loans and were even reported on the chex system and the credit union still gave us a second chance with a checking account. So I would check out a local bank or a credit union. Credit unions usually have less fees and lower interest rates on loans. Plus your a person their not just a number. Give it a try.
