$6/mo(with direct deposit) $8/mo (w/o direct deposit) includes FREE unlimited nationwide atm access at moneypass atms and FREE online billpay/pay anyone account comes with checks. Its for people with previous banking problems so signing shouldn't be an issue. You can make deposits like a normal bank account also.

I can't post the web address but it comes up in a search. This seems like a pretty good account. It has checks which people seem to prefer and the fee is more than made up for with the free atm and online pay anyone.

I'm going to look into this one myself. I love the idea on online pay anyone - checks to write!

Merry Christmas everyone! A special Merry Christmas for Mary/MCA and thanks for filling the void left by chexvictims!!

yes, Provident has been on my list for years now but I do have mixed reports from those that have tried to get accounts there and those that were successful.

I have called this bank myself asking questions. They will tell you on the phone that your report does NOT have to necessarily show it is paid, but I have had people that were not paid be denied because they weren't.

I have also had people tell me that were paid that they were denied because fraud or account abuse was listed on the report.

So I have concluded that it really depends branch to branch. Since many have reported to me that they did get accounts, the bank remains on my list. :?

Another one that I am trying to get more information and feedback on is Commerce.

I would venture to guess that not only does the report have to say it
is paid but also that there is no fraud indicated on the report. They
have locations is some hard to find states for non-chexsystems banks
and credit unions. I was hoping that you (anyone) could let me know if you have
had any luck with them or not before I add them to the list.

I'm going to call later this week and I'll ask about what conditions they won't allow an account. Fraud can be a killer.

Most of these accounts labeled 2nd chance or fresh start are $10 a month and some have heavy restrictions on atm limits like $100 a day and restrictions on daily spending. This is $500 a day and $1,500 in spending but the csr told me that the daily spending limit can be raised on a daily basis for large purchases.

To me the only good thing about 2nd chance checking, Fresh Start Checking or whatever name they choose to call them ..is that MOST of these accounts can be converted over to a regular checking anywhere from 6 months to a year if they remain in good standing. So it truly can give someone a 2nd chance in that sense when you consider that some banks out there will not give you an account at all period if you are reported to chexsystems.

Very Merry Christmas to you too Jtel !!!

There's more than one Commerce Bank. Apparently the name isn't exclusive to one financial institution only.

The one I'm somewhat familiar with is the one with the red, stylized "C". They are loacted throughout much of PA, DE, NJ, NY/LI, CT, DC and Southeast FL. I'm not sure if they have locations elsewhere. This is the best known, I think, and are open 7-days a week.

There's another Commerce Bank with a different logo, at least, which serves MO, KS, IL, and OK. To add further confusion, there's a Commerce Bank & Trust in the Worchester, MA area AND, Mercantil Commercebank with locations in Flordia, and single offices in NYC and Houston,TX.

The 7-day-week Commerce Bank has a mixed reputation. We have no direct experience with them aside from getting rolls of coins on weekends. Of the complaints and praises I have heard from members, I've never heard anything quite that awful. But then, I'm going by what I was told.

What I would do, is give any bank with a decent rep a chance. If there are frequent discrepancies with your account, bail and run-away. My personal preference is a good Credit Union anyway. Some don't require a reference anymore, and for those that do, just ask around (friends, co-workers, etc) - I was a member of 2 credit unions. For at least one of them, I had no shortage of references just by asking.
