There are many situations the same as yours. Many people wind up reported to chexsystems the exact same way. I would advise you to open a new checking account right away before you are reported.

OMG, I have the same situation. With Huntington, I too called the today and was told the same exact thing. I told them I can't 1/2 which is what they need by weeks end to keep the account open. I was just about to post about it when I spotted your post. I have a question...I have another checking account with Chase that I've had for years, will it be in danger and also what all does "chexsystems" effect? She told me it could effect such things as car loans even, is that true?

Chexsystems doesn't affect you writing checks. Chexsystems is used by banks, not retail stores and such.
Also, it doesn't just affect your account opening. Some banks do sweeps, and will periodically check their accounts for new chex reports.

It can affect other accounts. When I realized I was in danger of being reported to Chexsystems, I opened a new account. My second account was closed immediately following notice from my original bank that I'd been reported to Chexsystems. I would encourage you to confirm with the new bank that they will not close your account. It put me further into debt as I had several automatic payments set up to be paid through the account and all were returned NSF (including one to my landlord) even though I had sufficient funds to cover the payments. I ultimately went to Woodforest National Bank for their "second chance" checking. I know it can be embarassing, but I would definitely confirm with any new bank that they will keep your account open if you are reported to Chexsystems. Key Bank will not.
