NSF vs Overdraft fees?

I have a question - my payroll was late due to last tuesday's holiday and i had a bill bounced (jeez, i went from nothing bouncing to really being on a roll this year :( ). I am getting paid on Wed now and am not too worried but it's weird because it bounced on Thursday than I was charged an "overdraft: fee and its still here. Normally, it is sent back and I am charged an NSF fee. I did have some money in the account (enough to cover the overdraft fee, if that helps)
Should I call the bank? I am so paranoid about check fraud, but this was really my payroll's fault! (I never heard of getting paid a week late!!)

i would call because that does seem strange they would do that.maybe a mistake on there part.

yea, i think i'm going to call - maybe since i had the $35 in, they will be nice and not return it! haha, i wish! Nah, but I am a little freaked out, I won't really be able to call until after work.. i wouldn't even care if it got sent back because i will have the money there the second time they try to take it out.
it was a scheduled payment but i can easily fix it - i called the company and they said they didnt show it was returned, which is when i noticed. i'm not gonna pay them directly until i know what the bank is doing?

thanks, mca :)
i really want to put more time in it and make it the way i envision it - but i've been busy :( maybe after christmas
any thoughts on this over-draft thing, btw? The bank wasn't too helpful, said they "might" have covered it.. I sent out an email, sometimes they're more helpful..

Does this mean it won't be returned? I am so paranoid about chex systems!! That was seriously the last check I will ever write, I don't have any more checks and I am not even gonna order them.. I just would like this to be okay.

This was their email response:
Our records indicate that check number XXX overdrew your account on 11/13/08; however it was paid with an Overdraft fee, leaving your account at a negative balance. Please indicate if this is not the check in question.

My bank has an automated phone thing where you can call anytime and it will tell you what has been paid, etc. If you don't have this, did you call and ask for Bookkeeping Department? You can ask them if check number so-and-so has cleared.

It sounds like they paid it, but it has left your account in the negative. Find out about the check and then your balance afterwards, and then talk with someone, preferably in person about the mistake..Good Luck!..karen

When I was younger, I worked in a bank doing returns. Their rule at that time was, if you made regular deposits from a job, they usually paid the item. However, if you continually did it, they would close the account when it was in the negative, and then you have to get it paid off. That was years ago, don't know how they determine it now!..karen

Thanks - I actually never had an item paid before! My guess was maybe because this time I had the money to cover their fee? I actually still am quite worried about this, I am so scared they will try to close my account, my paycheck should be in tommorow but they said Friday the latest :(
This has only happened three times to me but its been three times since August and one of the customer service reps was kinda snotty with me about it so I am kinda anxious to just settle this already! I am actually considering a new bank, just because it seems to have ruined my reputation with them (or should I just hang in there?? In the past, I have written many, many checks with this bank and it never, ever bounced until recently)
This isn't the first time I got a late paycheck but it's the first time from my main job (it's kinda expected with my part-times)

maybe diff from one bank to another, but, nsf=insufficient funds od =overdraft one will be that there was not enough to cover but it was paid the other is that there was not enough to cover and it was not paid. usually nsf=not paid OD= paid either way the fee is the same. all banks have a Matrix which is the amount overdrawn that they will pay more od 's the lower the matrix gets to the point of Pay None

Join the Class Action Lawsuit against Wachovia Bank, N.A.

Read a letter from the U.S. Congress dated May 27, 2009 against overdraft fees and a threat to the banks about reforming these fees:

Read the FDIC report issued on November 2008 that uncovers a ???re-sequencing scam??? Wachovia and other banks implemented to rob consumers of their money through overdraft fees:
