Did you know that when you order checks from Deluxe or one of their subsidaries, that they send personal information to Chexsystems and to Deluxe's collection agencies? They send your acount number, address, phone number, and more. Do not order checks through Deluxe, Current Checks, Designer Checks, or Checks Unlimited. They also send information to other companies such as Debit Bureau, EFunds, and
SCAN.

Just always make sure that it isn't owned by Chex. They also keep information on file such as your account number, check numbers etc. Be Careful is all I am saying because there have been people who ordered checks and then chexsystems contacts thier bank realizing they have an account to let them know they are on chexsystems. Some situations where accounts were closed just from ordering checks.

Suggestions: Style Checks , Walmart, Identity Checkworks, Checks in the Mail, the check gallery, promise checks checks in the mail, Costco Checks, Bradford Exchange

Wow, I never fathomed that. But come to think of it, I ordered my ChexSystems report a while back and there was an area on there titled "History of Checks Ordered. It was blank on my report, but I found it odd.

I wonder if this is how PDLs find out people's new bank account #s???

I had thought a while back about buying check-writing software and print my own checks, but I never did... maybe it's time for me to rethink the issue.

Oh my gosh!! I actually had issues with Deluxe checks on getting my order mixed up. It was down to the wire and we moved to another location in town. Took them weeks to get the order right, I had to call and call, and now to learn this!! Thank you so very much for the warning
Granny you are very smart. I'm going to open up a checking account that offers interest. I will not order checks, only a debit account. I like the idea of having a checking account that adds interest. how much i don't know. figuring that out. i have to have $50 to open it

I have used Checkworks for the past few years. They don't sell your information to anyone and the customer service is pretty good IMHO. :D

mca, thank you. I have ordered from Deluxe, Current, and Checks Unlimited. This may be how my account information was "found". Let me ask you a question. When ordering checks from THE BANK, can I consider myself "safe"? Never again will I order checks from a "company". So are "bank" checks safe?

No,unfortunately the bank checks are not safe unless the bank does not use deluxe checks or an affiliate.

There have been circumstances where a customer who happened to be on chexsystems was able to open an account but after ordering checks, chexsystems took it upon themselves to let the persons bank know that the account should not have been opened because they were reported on chex. This situation has happened more than once.

Thanks for the info! I never would have thought that was possible. No wonder ID theft is so prevalent!

Crap! You can't even trust "bank" checks? Oh, Lordy! I'm with Luke. Is there is list of "safe" places to order checks? Or should I just burn them all? LOL!

I actually knew about that and forgot about it. I ordered my checks from Liberty through my credit union. I also have ordered checks from Styles Check Company and haven't had any problems to date. (sure enough I say that now hopefully nothing bad will happen  And I know I was on chexsystems, although I think it's been about 5 years now.

Anyone know what happens after 5 years with chexsystems?

Liberty and Styles should be just fine, they are not part of Deluxe. As far as chexsystems ...do not assume that after 5 years that they will remove you as they should. Most times than not after 5 years you will need to pull your report and if you are not removed, you will need to file a dispute and then they will remove you. To get a copy of your report go to chexhelp.com

Hey, mca. How about "Identity Checks"? I used to order from them before (this was awhile ago). Are they "safe", do you know? Thanks for any help, mca! :D

Checkworks at checkworks.com is not affiliated with Deluxe or Chexsystems. It has a nice selection of styles and designs and the prices are very reasonable. A feature I like is they will debit your account directly so you do not have to send a check or use your credit card. I have used Checkworks for number of years and have been very happy with it.

I just ordered from Checks in the mail, and they sent me a rejection letter saying I did not meet the security requirements thanks to EWS...

Now I need to know if there is anything safe?

MCA,

How can I actually tell if a company is affiliated with Deluxe, or EWS? I need to order some more checks and I use to use Checks in the Mail, but it's obvious they use EWS now. So is the Check Gallery, Bradford Checks, and the others you have listed above still okay to use?
