Ladies and Gentleman--

The reason A LOT of new banks are pulling out of the Chexsystems scene in verifying new accounts as well as supplying consumers with Deluxe checks, may be linked to this:

http://www.reuters.com/article/mergersNews/idUSN2740575120070627

They've been sold! Or at least when the original press release came out, it sent financial institutions questioning how in the hell eFunds/EFD was in a financial slump considering how much it costs banks to use their services even if they utilize multiple EFD services.

So they're pulling out! SunTrust was officially first to go based on the fact that some of their major dealings on the mortgage side were with Fidelity National out of Jacksonville, Florida (which you guessed it, is also home to one of SunTrusts major operations points in the south not too far from Fidelity headquarters).

It didn't take long for the news to spread according to a few reports and phone calls I made this morning in questioning the acquisition after all (customer service reps are morons usually and have no reason to question my validity or authority when calling and inquiring).

Ironically enough the Banc of America securities (BanK <-- of America's investment sector) helped approve the go ahead to acquire it. Well as we know they have stopped using eFund's completely. This was also verified on the phone with a Mark Allister in Dallas.

eFunds made a few crappy moves in the past 2 years with helping American Express and their prepaid traveler funds card (which nose dived) and of course Wild Card Systems which is a disaster area in the making. Deluxe checks also has taken a few hits and if we all keep our fingers crossed, Fidelity may actually use eFunds for the software not it's other services.

( above bank of america's part in the eFunds fiasco )

There is hope folks, there really really is!

Monday it may be, however this week seems a bit brighter!

YES ALL GREAT NEWS J..TY so much for that. The only problem I am seeing at this time is that most of the people that are reported on chexsystems are now reported on EWS. Unfortunately EWS is being used more and more. Even banks like USA-A that were always the best solution out there for many of us ChexVictims now uses both telecheck and EWS. People are being turned down and reporting to me that they are being denied due to EWS , not chexsystems. Credit unions like Arizona Federal Credit Union now uses EWS. Bank Of America , now uses EWS. Basically it is becoming the new demon.

EWS is Early Warning Systems... it used to be Primary Payment systems

Do you think being reported to chexsystems is bad? Well that is nothing compared to Early Warning Systems
(EWS). More and more people are telling me that they are being denied accounts not because of chexsystems, but due to EWS. This seems to be happening more with credit unions than banks from what I can tell. In the last 4 months I have had 6 people tell me that they were denied due to EWS at a credit union.

I decided to look into it more so because these people are on chexsystems so how have they been reported to EWS? I thought to myself, how can EWS have the information from chexsystems? This is what I have found so far.

Early Warning Systems ( previously Primary Payment Systems ) is now being used by banks and credit unions the same as chexsystems. Along with other participating organizations, they now share information about potential customers that may be a risk through Identity Check . Identity check distinguishes high-risk individuals from profitable customers the same as chexsystems.

They also have Deposit Chek . Deposit Check is a service that is a proven solution to help prevent fraud and expedite funds availability decisions at the teller window, new account desk, image ATM, online banking and/or the back office. ( this service is some what similar to chexsystems SCAN )

The EWS system at the teller window really does work well. It checks to see if that account number scanned by the teller (the check being deposited) has a record of NSF or if the account is closed when the teller does the transaction. That way the customer can immedatly try a different way to collect on the check. It also prevents people from "floating" checks. You know...when you know you get paid in 2 days, so write your rent check even though there's no money in the account right now. It's not going to clear for a few days anyway right? WRONG! If your landlord's bank uses the EWS system at the teller stations, your landlord may be calling you to say the checks no good. It's training people to really not use money that's not in their account.
