How long does a person remain in chex system? A friend of mine got in to a bad situation with the bank through payday loans 10 of them. They have overdrawn the account by $2,500 through fees (banks and pdl fees), needless to say the bank closed the account. My friend tried to open an account at a different bank, but was turned down. I suggested a secured pre-paid debit card would have to do for a while. :?: :?:

ChexSystems is.....

a check verification service and consumer credit reporting agency like Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. While most credit reporting agencies broker data about how a consumer handles credit relationships, ChexSystems provides data related to how a consumer has handled deposit accounts at banking institutions. "ChexSystems" is a registered service mark of eFunds Corporation headquartered in Delaware and was previously registered to "Chex Systems, Inc

Once on chexsystems, your name will remain on file for 5 years unless you file a dispute and there is no guarantee to be removed even with dispute. Paying the bank will NOT remove you from chexsystems. Many people believe and are even told it will but it will NOT.

The reporting bank is the ONLY one that can have chexsystems remove you and 9 time out of 10 the banks will NOT.

Depending on where your friend lives, there are always options for checking accounts. I usaully will not suggest a pre-paid card because of all of the fees involved. There are banks and credit unions that will open accounts for people on chexsystems and there are some that do not use chexsystems at all

go to chexhelp.com

Under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA) amendments to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you are entitled to a free copy of your consumer report, at your request, once every 12-months.

As far as WAMU yes people are able to get accounts with them from time to time ..but the problem with WAMU ( the worse bank there is in my opinion ) because they will run periodic checks on customers with chexsystems and if you are in chex they have been known to freeze your account and later close it. I have heard more horror stories over this bank and Wells Fargo than any other. But here is the policy apparently WAMU has on chexsystems

Washington Mutual uses information from ChexSystems, and in some cases
Experian, to verify customer information and to review the credit
history of prospective customers prior to opening new consumer and
business accounts.

If a customer has been reported to ChexSystems, Washington Mutual will
not open an account unless the report is at least three years old.

If there's anything else, you may call us toll-free at 800.788.7000,
send us an email by visiting wamu.com, or visit a Washington Mutual
financial center. To find the financial center nearest you, please go
to
wamu.com and select "Find a Location."

To call us while outside of the United States, call us at
800.540.9268.1
using your country's calling code. The additional "1" is necessary when
dialing the international telephone number. You may also contact an
operator and ask to make a collect call to us at 210.489.7902.

Sincerely,

Your WaMu Banker

They are the ones that put me in chexsystem. I was going thru a divorce my ex took all the money out and took his name off the account while checks were out on top of $576 in fees I had to go thru a check class thru my county and pay $295 for a returned check from Publix it was a $70 check!!! They paid 2 checks and the rest they returned that's how i ended up with the $576 negative! They didnt even give me 30 days to pay back the negative amount! They closed my other account that was just my account that had $398 in it and didn't even put that to the $576 negative account! ALSO the savings account had $479 in it so between the 2 there was more then enough to cover the negative amount yet I can't get them to do CRAP about fixing it OR taking my name off chexsystem and return to me the $298 that would have been left over back! I will never ever ever use WAMU again!
