Horrifying Thought

I just had a horrifying thought. My account is severely overdrawn past PDL and overdrafts. My stupid fault.

I was just reminded by my girl scout troop that I am a signer on the Girl Scout troops account and its at the bank I am overdrawn on. This is a checking account for the Girl Scout Troop.

Can they remove money from that account to pay off my personal checking account. If so, can I get my name off my account.

Thanks

If your name is on the account, they may be able to. I don't know how your bank works. I have a friend that was on her kids' accounts and her mom was listed on her account and she got overdrawn and the bank pulled money from her mom's account and her kids' account to bring her account current and then closed her account. The other accounts were left open, but her's was closed. You could always call the bank and ask them about it, but you do not have to tell them who you are. You can just say that you are concerned because someone is listed as a signer on your troops scout account and you head they were overdrawn and you were concerned if it would affect that account. At least then you would have the information.

Accounts held at a bank where a loan is also active can be garnished for repayment of the loan and applicable fees by the use of a "set off". The bank does not need to obtain a court order nor permission from the account holder to implement the action.

This holds true for those that have more than one account at a bank as well. If one account is negative, they can take money from the account that is not negative. Definitely look into getting your name removed from the other account or bring the negatiive account positive.

There is a differenc in ownership of an account, such as a joint account, and a signer on an account. In this case, since the signer is not an ower of the account, then the bank should not be allowed offset of monies.

It would be wise to call the bank to confirm, altho you did say you were having your name removed.
