I have a question, I dropped off a payment to the electric company last Monday. They did not post it, and the bank did not cash it. Should I stop payment? The company at first said to give it more time but now are saying they def. would have posted it if they recieved it. What are my concerns here? I 100% dropped it off and don't really have the extra fee right now to stop the payment. Is it a must to stop the payment? Is it possible that they still have it? I called many, many times and everyone confirmed it was never recieved.

if you can,go there in person with the checkbook in hand.show them the image in your checkbook.if they still say they don't have it.then ask them to void that check if they ever find it.then make a new one out same amount everything.make a note in your book and make sure they note it too.

ok.. will this work? or do you think they'll try to resubmit it anyway? this has never happened to me before and i am 100% sure i dropped it off as I always have in the past.. (it was in the night box). I did go in person and they said they have no record of it being recieved :/

it worked for me a couple of times in the past.just make sure you get it in writing that they will void that check if it ever is found.that is key.

Thanks.. it just seems weird because if I dropped it off, where could it be, ya know? I hate to put a stop payment but they say they send out the payments, etc. so I think I might have to as it could have gotten lost anywhere! That is the last time I am ever using the drop off box!

well my usual contact person told me to wait but i recieved a call later from collections, who told me to stop payment. so i stopped it and paid the $25 fee. i looked at my online banking today and noticed that they took it out as an ACH! I emailed my contact person who said she won't help as she advised me to wait. I called collections and the machine said to call back as they are experiencing high call volumnes. I told collections I am stopping payment and will pay in full on 10/30/08 so i spent the money in the account at the food store. I have nothing to cover it and would need it by 11:30 am for my bank not to return it. I have no idea what to do. I think they will keep trying to get it out and my bank is going to keep charging me $35. I already paid $60 in fees for this.

i talked to both, management was practically screaming at me and said there was no notes, nothing. i did my own research and it turns out they posted it to my mother's account! i guess cause we both have the same unusual last name?? she gave me money to cover it since it was her account and i will pay on my next payday. thank God i am never too old to ask my mother for help!
i could fight it with PSE&G but my mom said she did not want me to because she didn't want her account to be negativly affected. i called them and it's posted and paid for her account so i will let this go. but it wasn't right! the reason they kept saying they didn't have it was because it was with the wrong account!

it showed up on my bank but not PSE&G. they really gave me a hard time when I called and it's all their fault! they said there were no notes so i never called and my usual contact turned her back on me. the bank said i stopped payment when it was probably processing. so i lost $60 in bank fees and my bank wont help, probably because of the whole thing last month when they waived fees so i really dont have any choice here.

for whatever reason they took it as an ACH (which i didn't know they could do? I never authorized them..) and it went through. it's not my battle as it posted to my mother's account and she wants it to stay this way but i am still concerned they will do something else thats stupid. (btw, we dont even live in the same town!!)

this is it - no more writing checks ever for me!! it's the electric company's fault and it's still a nightmare! I am on hold with my bank, i woke up checked and it wasn't showing anymore! it is unposted and i am trying to get it to push through! i cannot mess up my mom's account - it's their error anyway!

what's weird is they never have done that before! the bank said it will post, i'm hoping it does but I won't know until tommorow. It completly dissapeared from my online statement. Yesterday it showed up as pending, it's gone today but the bank said they have it as unposted and they will push it through. I am $8 short on the overdraft fee (Kinda mad about having to pay it as I did stop payment on the check for $25 and it really was PSE&G's fault for posting it to the wrong account, telling me to stop payment and never making notes!). but anyway :) I am $8 short on the over-draft fee and hope they don't use that against me. I gave the bank my last $24 to cover most of the fee (wishing I haven't as my gas light is on and I really need to buy some stuff tonight)
