I am on chex systems and I recently (2wks ago) opened a checking account and saving account online with Suntrust. Everything was electronic as well as a signature. I have received a debit card and i am set up online. I haven't put much money in as of yet because I was worried they might come back and close it. Do you think I'm O.K. or should I lay low for a while.

I read that thread, but I'm still not sure when I can actually feel safe... and start using the account. Is there a window of time that the other accounts were closed or were they closed right away. Any help would be great.

I guess my question is after opening the account would the bank go back and check chexsystems later to see if you were added. More than likely I will be added to chexsystems soon and I have opened an account at a bank that uses chexsystems. I don't think chexsystems notifies any banks that your in there unless they inquire. If they find out you are in chexsystems and close the account, what can they do but send you the money that is in your account. You could call customer service of suntrust and give them a hypothetical situation. I would say I want to open a checking account and if after opening the account I'm placed in chexsystems by another bank would that have any effect on the status of my account with you. Of course these are just my opinions.

Some banks will check and run periodic checks with chexsystems on existing accounts. I am not certain if Suntrust is one of them. I don't believe they are. I believe once your account is up and running then you should be fine, especially after 2 weeks. Anything is possible but I believe you should be fine.

I always suggest that you have a back up account when you have an account a any bank that uses chexsystems. Never have all your money in one place.

Thank you for contacting SunTrust. We do not use Chexsystems. The verification that we use is telecheck and Decision Power. I will tell you that we have been able to approve many people who do have record with Chexsystems, so please give us a try. We offer several checking and savings account options for you to choose from.

- To get an account here please make sure you are not reported to EWS .. if you are, the account may be opened but will later be closed.

I think I am listed with checksystems, and have been denied an account because of EWS, but I was able to open an account with Suntrust online. I went into the branch and made my deposit, and all seems to be well...I'm not going to move any money into the account, and will keep my current account (with a non checksystems bank), as a back up...how long should I wait before moving things over to the suntrust account?

SPECIAL NOTE: ALTHOUGH SUNTRUST INSISTS THAT THEY DO NOT USE CHEXSYSTEMS, some people have reported to me that they were able to open an account but later they were told the account was being closed due to chexsystems, while others remained open. So this may be one that you might want to try, and I would say that after a month if the account is still open , I would then set up direct deposit etc ( it is always wise to have a back up account and never have all your money in one place)

Well my un-lucky day came today when I signed on to my online account with Suntrust and noticed my Checking account had been deleted, but my savings account is still showing. I hadn't funded the account because I wasn't sure if it would stay open since being on Chexsystems. I have one entry on Chexsystems from 2006, but I'm not sure how to check EWS to see if I am on there. I know I'm not on telecheck. I was just starting to think I was in the clear.....I guess I will watch and wait for my savings account to disappear. I really wish I could get that 1 blemished deleted off my Chexsystems report it would sure make my life alot easier. :(

O.K. Maybe I paniched to soon. The reason my online Checking account disappeared was because I hadn't funded the account yet. I put money in it today(very Little) and it shows up again online. I had the account opened for a while, but was afraid to fund it. I will still keep an eye on it. I don't trust anything yet.

Early Warning Systems ( previously Primary Payment Systems ) is now being used by banks and credit unions the same as chexsystems. Along with other participating organizations, they now share information about potential customers that may be a risk through Identity Check . Identity check distinguishes high-risk individuals from profitable customers the same as chexsystems.

Several organizations have partnered with Early Warning Services to help increase awareness and make the following services more accessible to credit unions. Here is a list of partners they are in collaboration with currently. As you can see this includes many, many credit unions that were once chex-friendly. CO-OP Financial Services who is listed as a partner with EWS also signed a multi-year contract with eFunds Corp(chexsystems) April 2007. Because of this many that are reported to chexsystems will also be reported to EWS.

Those wishing to obtain consumer report information should contact their Consumer Call Center at 800-325-7775. From what I have been told it is much easier to get a copy of your report with EWS than it is with Chexsystems. Apparently they will email you a form that you can mail or fax back to them. From what I have been able to tell, if you are reported to chexsystems then chances are good that you are reported to EWS. This seems especially true of those that have a Chexsystems report that has fraud indicated on it.

I applied for a checking account thru suntrust and their online chat system. She said I was approved and all I would have to do is go to the branch and show id and make a deposit. I asked her a second time if that is all i had to do and she said yes. Have you found this is true OR is there more and will they do a check thru chexsystems and deny me?

I get so so many mixed stories on Suntrust.... this is the most recent information we have .....

Although Suntrust claims that they do not use chexsystems, it has been reported that most branches still do. If you are going to apply:
-it must be through the online chat or over the phone
-the online applications still use chexsystems
If they ask you to go into a branch to finish up the process, tell them NO..that you wish to do everything by mail and fax ONLY. If you go into a branch to finish the process, they will run chex and deny you.
-Business accounts work the same way. Normally if you apply through online chat or over the phone, they only run the business through telecheck, not the signers on the account.
** if you go into a branch to finish the process, they will run the signers of the business through chexsystems and deny you.

(many people got account and still have them by following the above instructions)

I closed a account in March of 2008 and received a letter of 239.30 that i owed and i disputed that amount because i know that i closed it in good standings. Then i received another letter stating that i owed 379.28. Then a collection agent mailed me a letter stating that i owed 269.30. I pulled my chex system and it stated that i owed 479.90 to suntrust. I called Suntrust and she stated that i owed 519.00. What can i do about them doing this to me.

Did you know that when you order checks from Deluxe or one of their subsidaries, that they send personal information to Chexsystems and other companies. They send your account number, address, phone number, and more. Do not order checks through Deluxe, Current Checks, Designer Checks, or Checks Unlimited. Do not use any company that is affiliated with Deluxe. They also send information to other companies such as chexsystems, telecheck, Debit Bureau, EFunds, and EWS.

Just always make sure that it isn't owned by Deluxe/Chexsystems. They also keep information on file such as your account number, check numbers etc.

Why is this a problem?

Chexsystems has been known in more than one instance to have contacted a bank realizing an account has been opened just from the customer simply ordering checks. There have been times when Chexsystems has even suggested to the bank that they close the account because they felt the customer was a potential risk etc. Here is a sample report from chexsystems that shows the check ordering history on it. So even if you have opened an account at a non-chex bank, it is still very important not to order checks at one of these companies. Sometimes a bank manager will make an exception and open an account but when checks are ordered and chexsystems is alerted to it, they may recommend that it was a mistake. Please be cautious until you are removed from chexsystems

Banks open account and later close them. It happens all the time unfortunately. And yes the banks that you mentions are the ones that do it quite often. As far as Suntrust, yes I have had several people have account closed but it was due to issues with EWS not chexsystems
