If you have received a garnishment, does that mean that you have a judgment against you? If so, then they probably can seize your bank account. I'm not sure whether child support is exempt, but even if it is, you would have to prove that the funds are exempt in order to get them released.

I'm not sure that opening a new account would keep them from seizing it. Many creditors seem to be able to find out your banking information. :?:

File as fast as you can! Once you decide to file for bankruptcy, the general rule is that the bankruptcy stops all efforts by your creditors to collect monies from you. In other words, the garnishment may be halted (depending on the type of creditor, state you live in etc.,).
