My ex husband filed chapter 7. He put the debts that were his from the divorce. Now the companies are saying I am liable for them now that he is untouchable because of the chapter 7. Do I have to pay these? They are on my credit report as bad debts but they are his. I live in WI he lives in TX. Thank you for your help.
PS When I called the people one my credit report they said they follow the original application and the divorce papers are not valid.

Were these accounts joint or were you an authorized user only? If you were only an AU, then you are not financially liable for these debts. If they were joint accounts, you are. They are correct in that they are not bound by your divorce decree. I had a similar situation many years ago and I ended up having to pay the debt and then take my EX back to court in order to get my money back.

How long ago did you move to WI? When was the last time payments were made on the account? If the answer to both those questions is 6 years or more, then this would fall under WI's Statute of Repose which will extinguish the debts on expiration of the 6 year SOL.
