filed chapter 7 and now...

Of course you are allowed to get married! That has nothing to do with having filed BK. Your discharge will take away your legal obligation to pay those debts. It will also mean that you will not be able to get credit at good rates for awhile. It could possibly affect your ability to rent or to get certain jobs. And it could cause your insurance rates to go up, depending on what state you live in. Other than that, your boyfriend is right--your life isn't over!

Since your boyfriend didn't file BK, his credit will not be affected just because you filed. The only thing that would affect him is that it will now be harder for you to obtain credit. This means that you may not be able to purchase a house together for a few years.

I didn't know if it is allowed. Like if we did get married next summer would the trustee be able to recover wedding gifts? I have heard that after bk the trustee watches everything you do for up to year after the discharge. I worry b/c I want to make sure everything I do is honest.

You are fine getting married!!! Once your bk is discharged it is over. With the amount of BK's filed in this country, the trustee really doesnt care about toasters and towels and will have no way of knowing what cash wedding gifts you will get.

How long can a trustee monitor you? So you aren't allowed to make a big purchase soon after the bk discharge? What if a relative loans you the money after the discharge, can the trustee go after that?

I am in the middle of a Chapter 7, and I'm expecting my discharge in a month or so. My attorney never said anything about the trustee monitoring anything at all, either before or after discharge. I believe the trustee only has copies of whatever records you provide during the BK proceedings, so I don't see how they could monitor anything else.

Filed Bankrupty in early February. Got married March 7th, 2009. Is this going to affect my Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing? I have not changed my name yet.
