I received court papers for a debt I owe I tried very hard to work a payment plan but they refuse I dont have the full amount. Can I file for bankruptcy would that stop them. Please help

It will stop them from trying to collect further. But, filing bankruptcy would be something I'd do as a last resort. How much is the debt, and do you have other debts to include in your bankruptcy?

You may want to advise the attorney that is representing the creditor/collector that if they are not willing to work out a payment arrangement, you will look into filing bankruptcy. Sometimes when they hear this, they are more willing to cooperate.
