Does anyone know of a good online bankruptcy site to do it online?

I just finished preparing paperwork for a bankruptcy for my ex-husband from a website. I now have the paperwork printed out but need some questions answered so I hope someone out will help me out. My first question is this:
Can I go and file the paperwork for him? I know he has to take a counseling class and show up for the meeting of creditors but I think I can go to the courthouse and file the paperwork.

You can get the forms online or at your bk courthouse. Most of the forms are federal, but some are state specific. Your state's bk court should have a website with all the forms and instructions for what forms need to be filed.

There are instructions that come with some forms . . . . But not all of them. But most of the forms are pretty straighforward.

My total cost was the $299 filing fee, and $100 for the 2 counseling classes you have to take. That is the absolute cheapest you can file for, unless you qualify to file for free. But you have to be very very low income and such to qualify for that.

But - I'd only recommend doing the paperwork yourself if you have a very simple straightforward case. Mine had no assets and no secured debts. If there was a house involved or something, I don't know that I'd recommend doing it yourself.

In comparison, my total cost was $399. To have an online preparer do it, you would have to pay anywhere from $150 to $500, plus the $399 filing fee and counseling classes. To have a lawyer do everything, it's usually around $1000 to $1500, plus the $399 filing fee and counseling classes. ***These costs are for Chapter 7 BK.

As far as online preparers go, be very careful. These people are just entering data . . . . It's not like they can advise you of anything. They are doing nothing you cannot do for yourself. If you need advice on what to do, you would need to contact a lawyer.

I'm unemployed and qualify for the fee waiver.I did all of my homework before deciding to file.My freind hired a lawyer and he gave me all the info i needed.I spent $249 + $100 for the tests. My trustee was very nice and said that all of my paper work was filled out correctly. My friend also said that the trustees in my town know that the economy around here is bad. They see 25-30 filings daily.
