I need serious help and advice. I file Chapter 13 Bankruptcy 4 years ago. I have been making all my payments and on time with the trustee.
In the mean time I got 5 credit cards that I paid on for some time, then ran into some personal problems. Had some big medical bills to pay so I fell behind. The credit card companies are unwilling to work with me to lower the interest or remove some of the fees to make it possible for me to keep up. I got very frustrated with making payments and just getting deeper and deeper in debt. I stopped making payments and of course I began getting calls all day long. I am 3 months behind on 1 card and 8 months behind on the other 4 cards.
I am about 23,000 in debt. My credit is already shot so there is really no saving my credit. I have thought of calling the BK Attorney but I am too ashamed to be in this situation again.
I don't know if I should swallow my pride and call the BK attorney or ignore all of them and hope they go away. I don't want to be sued, but I know I can't keep putting my head in the sand as I have been. My husband and I are separated so there is no change of getting any help from him. I would like to take responsibility and pay my bills, but the way the Credit cards and have piled up the interest and fees, there will be no end in site, at least not in my lifetime. HELP! I am feeling very desperate all the time. I am ashamed to even admit this, but had even considered committing sucide over this mess. The last debt collector to call me was so rude and mean, then she hung up on me.

Please, please try not to think like that. I know that when you're in financial straits, all kinds of things run through your mind. But, your life is too precious to waste over stupid credit card bills.

Swallow your pride and call the BK attorney. You are not the first person to end up in this situation, and you will certainly not be the last. You may have to listen to a lecture, but that is part of dealing with a mistake.

Ignoring the bills will not make the creditors or collection agencies go away. You know you messed up and have had the courage to come on here and express how you're feeling, that is a huge step. Now take the next step and just call your attorney and see what can be done to help put this behind you.

marydairy - welcome to our forums!

Please do as mentioned above and call your attorney. It is entirely possible to add additional creditors to your BK13 payment plan, just as it is possible to remove them. All it calls for is a Plan Modification.

These things are not carved in stone - they can be changed (modified - thus the name Plan Modification).

Please let us know how things go! :-)
