i am retired, as a cosigner on a student loan, can my social security check be garnish?

Better do some research before posting.
LINK REMOVED BECAUSE IT IS NOT APPLICABLE

Even if they don't garnish the check directly, they can levy your bank account. They don't care the origin of your money.
MOD NOTE....WRONG WRONG WRONG....,GOVERNMENT PAYMENTS ARE EXEMPT FROM LEVYS

NEVER co-sign for anyone or anything. Read my Hyundai Horror post. I'll be screwed for years, even if they don't try to come after me.

Here's another article:

LINK REMOVED FOR SAME REASON AS ABOVE,

It sucks but I don't know what anyone can do about it.

Meanjean...please do NOT post in student loans if you do not know the difference between a federal loan and a private loan. I have to spend the time checking out your irrelevant links and delete them. The poster is posting about a private loan. They cannot touch government benefits even with a judgment. Only federal loans can garnish government benefits.

No, they cannot garnish social security. However they can sue you and lein any property you own or garnish any pensions or other income.
