Can bankruptcy help to stop an eviction?

Yes bankruptcy can stop an eviction. Have you filed for bankruptcy before your landlord got a judgement for possession? If so, then the automatic stay will stop your landlord from beginning the eviction process or sending you a termination notice. But, if you’ve filed bankruptcy after your landlord got a judgement for possession against you, then bankruptcy doesn’t provide much protection. However, there are certain states that allow you to temporarily stop eviction.
