I am seriously considering going the chapter 13 route...as I feel it is my best option, since I have ALOT of cc debt due to medical issues (back). Have tried to work with the different cc companies and that has been worthless...

My questions is, can my filing for chapter 13 have any affect on my soon to be junior in HS possibility of getting student loans/grants, etc...for college? I have been searching for answers on this question and so far have not had much success so thought I would broach the subject here.

Thanks for any replies.

Bankruptcy doesn't mean that all doors to future credit will be forever closed to you. This might stay in your credit as a negative patch for 10 years, but it is possible that you can do the repair work within a couple of years and improve your credit standing. You need to take the proper steps and manage your credit responsibly.

After you have filed for bankruptcy, always make sure to set up a budget so that you can repay the remaining debts and the building of assets. Keep an existing credit card by reaffirming the debt. Try for a secured card or vehicle loan and be regular in the payments. That's the fastest way to rebuild your credit after BK. When you are doing everything positive, don't take on new debts unless you are 100 percent sure of repaying it as agreed.

I have a BK from 8 years ago.. My son was able to get the govenors waiver for classes and a stafford loan he has not had to try for any private loans yet, but as far as i know the goverment loans and grants are based on need. And actually my bad credit was a help to him he quailified for more money from the Stafford loan then if I had had good credit.. But I would do as Steeler states and check around with a advisor. I did
