The new law is quite tough to qualify. I read in the other post that the credit card companies had suffered a lot from Chapter 7 bankruptcy earlier. But if you listen to what I am saying, you would feel for me.

I have 5 credit cards with around $20,000 due. But I was forced to take these cards, trust me. It's true that I'm a grown up and have the ability to decide what suits me and what does not. But these card companies are like glue you know. They insist you such a way that you are compelled to take one.

Okay, I've lost my job 3 months ago and passing through a hard time. These card companies have made life hell. Two of them are under collection even.

But unfortunately I cannot file bankruptcy, because I cannot afford the charge for credit counseling or the other expenses that are imposed on the applicants. Any advice is appreciated. I cannot get payday loans since I'm not employed

Don't even think of payday loans at your present situation. They could be proved fatal to you. Go through this forum and see what others saying about payday loans.

I really feel for you. This is the problem with these credit card companies. They just try to push their product anyhow. But it's already late to think all these things, right?

I think you should go for consolidation. I am assuming that you have only credit card debts. You can place all of them in the consolidation program.

This site provides free counseling, so you need not pay any charge right now.

Bankruptcy is not suggestible at all. It has long lasting effect on your credit. On the other hand, once you enter in the consolidation program, your credit is likely to improve gradually.

You can fill out the sign up form of this site to get a free counseling. Best of luck.

As you have this debt occurred in your name, you will have to pay it in order to improve your credit view.

If you leave this debt unpaid, harassing calls from the CA's and the creditors will continue and some of them might even think of taking legal actions against you.

It is better to pay them off in easy monthly installments rather than shifting it to the next month. Later, when you get a job, you can pay more towards the account. The point is to make a good view in front of your lenders. If you take this responsibility from now, they might include you in their good books.

Contact the lenders and explain them about your financial situation. Show them your willingness to pay the said debt and you will be offering more when your situation improves.

Since the lenders are also interested in getting their money back, they will offer you some benefits. Keep your accounts active with the creditors. This will also give you the advantage of keeping the rates of interest down. Otherwise it will be immensely higher in the later period.

If you hesitate in negotiating with your lenders, request for a free counseling in this website. The counselors will do the best for your comfort.

Hi Lr,

Welcome to the forums.

I will suggest you to contact your creditors and settle the matter outside the court. Make some payment arrangements because you will have to do this even if the matter is taken to the court. If you can make arrangements with your creditors outside the court, it will be more than helpful.

Or, you can think of filing chapter 7 bankruptcy and discharge the credit card debt. But before you decide to do this, I will recommend a debt counselor to talk with you. He will show some possible ways to curve these problems. Please enter your contact information at the sign up page and seek professional advice.
