Yes you can....you can even file after they get the judgement.

Thank you for your answer. I thought I would go thru the hearing
but I have a problem. I just returned from the county clerk to get
info for my answer.She said I do not mail an answer out until the
court hearing. The papers with the summons says to mail an answer
or the court may issue a default judgment.I think I should file a
discovery as they only show one month of bills.Is this right not
to answer until court.I am lost on all of this.I have no money to
pay.Also should I make a list of my personal items plus bank
statement . If I loose do they come & take all my things. I am in
Colorado a widow age 76 on Social Security. Thank you again for any

Whether or not you file bankruptcy, you should give a reply to the summons. If you don't do so, your creditor will get a default judgment against you. In order to stop the creditor from getting a default judgment, it's better to give a reply to it.
