Are you in a community property state? If so, the car and the debt belongs to you regardless of way the title reads and the name on the loan.
Remember, the Trustee takes a percentage of what you pay. If the car is paid through the Plan the Trustee gets a cut. Do you have an attorney? If so, you really need to discuss this with him/her. If not, you really should get one. It is easier to stop a Trustee from walking all over you if you have legal representation.
