I am considering filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I have over $42,000 in credit card debt and I don't have any assets that exceed the allowed exemptions. Would debt settlement be a viable option instead of filing for bankruptcy? I have heard that debt settlement does not always work. Should I even consider debt settlement?

How many points will my credit score go down? I have heard anywhere from 80-300 points. I would just like to know so that I know what to expect if I do file Chapter 7...Thanks to all for any answers.

Why wouldn't he qualify? I'm filing BK7 for the same amount. It depends on what your income is.

It is all depending on your income. Anyone can file chapter 7 as long as their debt is higher than what they make and can afford to pay back. All in good faith.

I was discharged last February 11 and my debt was $70K and i didn't come across any problems. Now i am $0 liabilities now showing on my credit. Something that i am not proud of, but i was really having a hard time making ends meet. My score fell from 715 to 601 which isn't too bad at all.
