Hi guys,

I wanted to know if it was possible to file for bankruptcy without the aid of an attorney? For obvious reasons we can't afford to hire one. Would it be possible to use a legal document service like the one that advertises on tv? Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks in advance!!

Yes, you can definitely file bankruptcy without the aid of a lawyer. However, it is always wise to file with the help of an attorney, because if you make a mistake, your case may be dismissed. You may visit the link "http://www.uscourts.gov/bankruptcycourts/prose.html" for more details on how to file BK without an attorney.

I looked at everything and decided to hire an attorney. I had too many concerns about getting everything done properly. The paralegal services cannot offer advice. They can only fill out the forms with the info you give them, even if it is nor proper. My attorney is taking payments. I give him about $50 a month for him to represent me. This keeps the creditor calls away, and he will file when the fees have been paid. To me it is worth it for the peace of mind.
