Yes, you can definitely file bankruptcy without the aid of a lawyer. However, it is always wise to file with the help of an attorney, because if you make a mistake, your case may be dismissed. You can also look for paralegal services to help you file....I know people who have used them sucessfully and cost them about $200 to do the paperwork.

I would call a few attorneys and find out what their payment requirements are. Some are willing to workout payment plans.

If you do it yourself you need to make sure you dot your I's and cross your T's..... one section that is not properly filled out could cost you plenty...good luck

Personally, I don't recommend doing a BK by yourself...there was a thread a day or two ago where the OP did a Ch 7 himself and made a mistake - a simple mistake...filed BK the day before his direct deposit went in and now the trustee wants the $1600!!!

No im not working with him just so happen that hes my lawyer for my loan modification so I am trying to suggest his name hoping that I can help.

I looked at everything and decided to hire an attorney. I had too many concerns about getting everything done properly. The paralegal services cannot offer advice. They can only fill out the forms with the info you give them, even if it is nor proper. My attorney is taking payments. I give him about $50 a month for him to represent me. This keeps the creditor calls away, and he will file when the fees have been paid. To me it is worth it for the peace of mind.
