If I file bankruptcy and have exagerrated my income in order to get a credit card, will the credit card debt be discharged? I've heard some say it is considered fraud and others say don't worry about it because the credit companies would never contest it.

I would think that a lot of people overstate their income and don't have problems. I am concerned because I have two accounts with the same credit card company and honestly dont remember if I put different amounts on the applications or not. I'm thinking that credit card companies don't ever investigate this when notified of a bankruptcy. Am I thinking correctly? Anyone actually heard of someone not getting credit card debt discharged due this in real-life?

I think you should be honest about your income, no matter what you're filling out. You can get YOURSELF in a 'bind' if you document you make more than you should. Just giving you my 'general' outlook. I'm not saying this, DIRECTLY toward you, just 'throwing this out there'..kind of thing.

I DO know a few CC companies that DO persue calling your employer and asking about your income. I'm sure they want to know if you can actually pay on the Credit Card.

And plus, quite honestly, we really couldn't answer that question, either. You need to make a decision on your own as to what to do in this case. That said, Bankruptcy will check so you have to be truthful there and if you don't wish to take the risk, then don't put that particular creditor in the bankruptcy. And the credit card companies rarely fight the BK, but they sometimes do and there is really no way to predict that accurately.

This very subject was also discussed on this thread: Reported false income on credit card app is this a problem?
