Question about bankruptcy and proof of income

I am about to go to a bankruptcy attorney and I have been reading the blogs. One of them said that the chapter 7 was dismissed because there was no proof of income. We own our own business and are on lean times like everyone else. If we are not receiving much income what does that mean. How can we show proof when there is not much to show. I thought that was what bankruptcy was for. Please respond.
