With the unsecured debt and unpaid medical bills, on top of the seven payday loans, I had to begin bankruptcy proceedings to get from under that strain. My overall debt amount was not that high (around $5500 total), it was the little nickel-and-dime balances that made it tough to organize and it caused my credit score to plummet.

Right now, my family is beginning the rebuilding process by writing out a master budget and following it as closely as possible. When I did a preliminary budget, I was amazed to see that we stand to save roughly $735 a month. On top of that, my car died on me and I have no transportation other than the bus. However, my dad laid a bombshell on me the other day by telling me that when his settlement comes in, he is going to sell me his 2005 Lincoln Town Car for a dollar! And he was dead serious about that!
