If you find out your wages have been garnished(without your knowledge) I have been told BK will stop it, but my question is:
Will your money stop being garnished right away or does it take awhile?

The deductions will have to stop as of the date you actually file a BK case. If they keep taking money after you file, legally they would have to give it back to you.

Now that doesn't mean "getting an attorney". What I mean is that some BK attorney's will set you up on a payment plan, and they won't file the BK until you've paid them in full. Simply hiring an attorney won't stop the garnishment. You actually have to file a case in the BK court and have a case number - then the garnishments will stop.
