I heard there is a way to dispute with CAs to provide validation of a debt, I think or else they have to remove it from my credit report. Is this true? How do I go about doing this? I already have an updated credit report from all 3 credit bureaus and noticed some of them have been listed twice and I do not recognize some of them. How can I clean it up? Thanks!

any account can only be reported once, So if the same account shows multiple times, you can dispute it as multiple reporting and they should delete one of them. For accounts you do not recognize, you would dispute them the same way, Tell the CRA that you do not believe the account is yours.

To file a dispute you can either call the CRA (their numbers are on their website) or file your dispute on line at their company website. Once filed, they have 30 days to complete their investigation. After their investigation is complete they will notify you of their out come (whether they were able to validate the reporting or not) IF they were not able to validate, then they will delete the report and furnish you a new corrected copy of your credit report. IF they were able to validate it, they should (upon further request) provide you with that companies information that if you still believe it's is en error, or its legit and you want to take care of it you can contact that company directly to do so.

The Federal trade Commissions' FCRA Website at http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcrajump.htm has a lot of great information and answers to common questions regarding credit reporting.

Hi guys I have a questions about CAs that fail to report for years. A CA by the name of Franklin Collections has not reported a collection on me since may of 2004. I wanted to know what the deal with that.

you sure thats a CA?? not those collectibles? You want them to continue to report you ?? Call them and find out what the current status is. delinquent accounts can be reported for 7 years from date of delinquency. So if you went delinquent in May 2004, it can continue on your report until may 2010.

all negative information remains on your report for seven years from the date of first reporting unless the reporting company deletes it themselves. ( sometimes a CA will delete negative reports as part of a agreement to settle or pay an account in full, but you would have to negotiate that with the CA).

What does the status say? If the status is not correct, you can dispute it. Since the CA has not updated it for 2 years or more, chances are they won't verify it back. In that case, it will be dropped off your report. But, if they verify it as correct, the item will stay there. As Clay has mentioned earlier, correct negative entries remain on your report for 7 years from the date of reporting. However, you may try your luck with this...let us know how it works.

The status is showing Date Opened: 04/27/2004 Date Reported: 05/01/2004 Franklin Collection. They have not reported in over 2 years maybe they do not have anything on me. Should I touch and see what happens. Do not know whats the worst that can happen if I dispute.

Have you paid this account off? The status does not say anything about it.

The worst thing that can happen is that it would be reported as correct. The date of first reporting won't be changed. So there is nothing to lose. However, if there is any remaining balance, then they can start collecting it all again.
