I hope I'm not posting in the wrong area, if I am, I apologize. How do collection agency's find out where you are working if you don't apply for credit?

Also, when my vehicle was put in my name, sos, told me they give this info to no one, yet, when I sought a credit report, for proof of my idenity they asked what my most recent car was, they gave me a list to chose from, low and behold, mine was on the list.

there are many ways. Any open accounts that report to your credit report. When you call in they always verify current address, etc, and they report that. pubic records (car titles, etc. If you assumed a car loan, they most likely report if your are on time. No finance business would knowingly let you assume a loan or issue a loan to you in another's name.

Also , everything you do on the Internet is watched by many people. even with software like firewalls, spam filters, anonmizers etc, you leave a trail every time you file out a form for anything on the Internet. There is nor secrecy or anninimity on the net.

CBR's. They can find out what address you last reported to a social security office, or what your job reported you as. They can find relatives or possible relatives. They can find your neighbors. They can use many pretexes, without misrepresenting themselves. Own a company? They can contact City Hall to get the name and number.

There are so many search tools that are built completely for debt collectors that are designed to find you with the smallest piece of information. A date of birth, a town, zip code, address.. ect..

The point of all of this really is.. pay your bills. If you get behind own up to them and don't try and hide from them.
